Anyone want to take a side trip to Carlsbad Caverns or go to Ruidosa for the horse races?

Pueo: Think Albuquerque. This town is crawling with retired militry, its practically a garrison town. There's a major AF base here, so there's a PX, Commisary and other support systems for military retirees. Mostly junior birdmen, but then you can't have everything.

Seaglass: Rudioso is near the center of the State, and Billy the Kidd country. Carlsbad is in the southeast corner. Both wonderful places to visit, but far too far for a day trip from Albuquerque. Schedule them for a stop either on the way here, or home. I'm pretty sure you know that, but some who live further way may not.

This post originally posted under the Boston Gathering thread.
***********
We are exploring the idea of a Western A2K gathering in Abluquerque sometime in April, or maybe May, or even June. So far I think there are about ten folks who've expressed interest. Albuquerque is relatively central to most of the Greater Southwest, though our distances are much greater than those in New England, or the Southeast. Albuquerque can be reached by road (I-25 and I-40), or by air into Albuquerque's Sun Port.

To ease the cost, my wife and I will open our home Corazon for most of the gathering activities. We have plenty of room, a pool, BBQ, bar, and etc. We have only two guest rooms, but they might be available if anyone's budget is stretched too tight to afford a hotel room. Because we live on a modest government pension we are not able to supply all the food and drinks that this crowd might consume. We can provide some transportation, but I think most would benefit by car rental. When the gathering is more definite, I'll try to get a group rate at one of the local hotels. Finding a suitable restaurant here should be no problem if the group want to sit down together for a meal. There are a number of casinos within easy distance, and visits to a pueblo, or to Santa Fe are also easily arranged.

I'll donate a picture to the A2K person traveling the longest distance to the gathering. Hope that tempts some of you from the Pacific Coast, or from outside the region.

The poll to select a date for Gathering in Albuquerque has been up now several days. Zero response. Does that mean no one is interested?

Didn't see it till now. The first week of April is out - that's Florida. I was actually thinking of a couple of days, and probably a weekend. Lots of built up vacation, but could never face work if the inbasket had more than a week to build up.

Being so close, it isn't going to take much planning on my part, and can go with whatever works best for everyone.

We'll need a lot more than two. C'mon folks belly up to the bar and vote if you're interested.

I prolly can't make it, and if I could, it would much matter to me when the gathering was set for.

Roger - I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get back out to NM, but the kitty's sick again and so's the damned dog. I just can't get a break with these animals.

Oh my! I forgot about Screech. What's going on? I thought Bootsie was in good shape after surgery.

Screech is up to 8 units 2xday, a lot of insulin. He still doesn't seem happy. I spend a lot of money on that cat STILL. Bootsie has two or more lumps that may or may not need to come out. I won't know until next month when I can afford to take her into the vet.

Wrong thread... sorry.

My fault for getting off topic, but it wasn't really. Sure hope it comes out okay with Bootsie. You've got enough to contend with without another round of surgery.

Two votes! I don't believe it. Surely, there's more interest than that.

My vote is #3 and now according to the poll we who voted all choose different times. My only concern is that I am planning a trip to Florida in late March. Any time in late April or May is good for me. My preference is May however I am flexiable.

I didn't vote because I'm so close that almost any date works that doesn't collide with the Florida thing. The higher summer room rates usually go into effect on Memorial Day, for whatever that's worth.

Good point Roger. Perhaps we can narrow the field somewhat. Early April is probably too close to the Floridan Gathering, and after Memorial Day may cost too much for some. That leaves us the last two weeks of April through the last two weeks of May to choose from.

So you and I, plus three voters so far makes 5. I expect that if this thread remains active by having a posting once, or twice, each day we will get more schedules. The poll is set to run for 30 days; about three more weeks.

Don't forget; the earlier you set dates, the easier it will be for people to schedule. Also, airfare might be better if planned ahead of time. c.i.
