@dagmaraka,
Eh. There's plenty of kind, smart single men in Holland too. I used to be one of them. And it's fairly easy to get them too, as long as you're willing to be the one to take the initiative. Macho they're not, but easy going and fun.

I don't think the supply is the problem. It's more of a selection & interface problem I think. That seems to be my problem here, anyway. There's lots of very beautiful and kind Hungarian women, sure. There's a fair share of flirting, too, gushing enthusiasm to see you, lots of smiles, little jokes. But then I run into this wall, and I don't know what it's about, but it sure keeps me from getting anywhere beyond that.

I did have a couple of sobering conversations, back before Anastasia came here, with - you know - intelligent, non-conformist and independent-minded women (friends or friends of friends), about what they thought men and women should be like. What whose role is, what's necessary in a good man, and who should be doing what during the courtship. And holy moses was that depressing. It was like travelling into the fifties, and those were smart and kind of alternative women. So maybe that's it. I don't know how to play that kind of game, I was raised by a feminist.<shrugs>

@nimh,
That's almost worse than being a feminist woman.. I see the problem.

The ability to fund shopping sprees. If you can do that they'll eat out of your hand.

@nimh,
well, good. then stay away from generalizations. i don't fit a role of some traditional woman either and don't give a crap who thinks what whose role should be.
i know there are single guys.... i'm just longing. it's spring. that's all.

@msolga,
What are "wrong women" Olga?

Are you calling into question my sampling procedures?

@spendius,
Yep. If they think the ability to fund their shopping sprees is the definition of "a good man", spendius. You might try mingling with some socialist types next!

um, wait.

you're the one who was complaining that all the good men in holland are married or gay - but when i complained likewise about women here, responded that i couldnt possibly have reason to complain cause central europe is all beautiful smart single women ...

and then you blame me for making generalisations when i vent my frustration? you're kidding, right?

what, are you the only one who gets to make snappy generalisations when venting about the lack of mates?

**** that. get over yourself already. jeez.

@nimh,
wtf? ummm. before you get all outraged - i wasn't saying YOU were making generalizations. other people are making them--as you described those girls talking about their perceptions of what roles should be-- and i say - who cares? i was trying to empathise, but whatever.
the rest, well.... whatever. up to you to choose your words.

EDIT: deleted the rest. shouldda known better, given the past interactions. you always take things personally immediately. i will try to remember to word things more carefuly so they cannot be misunderstood as it just happened.
