@edgarblythe,
Incredible to watch this process for a former South Carolinian because I tell you, I NEVER thought that stiff-necked bunch would EVER take that flag down. I'm worried about the backlash, but we'll get through it and I am really believing that is a great step toward a true reconciliation between blacks and whites.

I know that when Bernie is elected, we will have community dialogues toward healing - and many of Bernie's objectives specifically designed to eradicate many of the most grave racial issues will start mending us together. We finally have marriage equality. We will have gender equality and racial equality in the next decade. Finally.

That flag is coming down. Smile Wow.

Because when I said "fixed" I was admitting to changing her words. That I changed her words is not in dispute, the only thing that could be is weather my change accurately represents her beliefs.

@hawkeye10,
And that's exactly what he did, he changed forgot to forgive because he wants to believe that's what I think. This is how sad, little men make themselves feel important.

South Carolina House approves bill removing Confederate flag

Quote:
The move early Thursday came after more than 13 hours of passionate and contentious debate, and just weeks after the fatal shootings of nine black church members, including a state senator, at a Bible study in Charleston.

"South Carolina can remove the stain from our lives," said 64-year-old Rep. Joe Neal, a black Democrat first elected in 1992. "I never thought in my lifetime I would see this."

The House easily approved the Senate bill by a two-thirds margin (94-20), and the bill now goes to Republican Gov. Nikki Haley's desk. She supports the measure, which calls for the banner to come down within 24 hours of her signature.

Im afraid Bernie aint going anywhere. He will be like all the other socialist leaning Dems of the last half century. They either flame out or dont pile up huge pluralities in the less mega liberal states

I hope you are wrong, Farmerman. I think Bernie Sanders is starting a national conversation that will be embraced by the "millennials" and their political power is growing. I am optimistic. After all, who would have thought that the South Carolina legislature would vote to remove the Confederate Flag from the seat of state government power? the America we know is changing and becoming more progressive and enlightened. I have hope.

I'm looking forward to finding out. If Sanders's campaign goes under because of an intrinsic weakness, so be it. But in the meantime, I'd rather not drown Sanders in a vortex of self-fulfilling prophesy.

He is a powerful communicator. He's not afraid to say what he thinks and he doesn't appear to be kissing anyone's behind in order to get elected. I was very much a believer in Obama, and I believe we have made some progress as a nation during his presidency, but I lost "hope" for a "change we can believe in" when Obama failed to end the wars, failed to end domestic spying on the people, and failed to close down Guantanamo Bay. When I read about Bernie, I am finding renewed hope.

The man accused of killing nine black churchgoers in South Carolina last month was able to buy a gun due to a background check failure, the FBI says.

Dylann Roof should have been stopped from purchasing a weapon due to a felony charge, FBI chief James Comey told reporters on Friday.

But he said the charge was either incorrectly entered into a background check system or mishandled by analysts.

@farmerman,
I think conventional wisdom agrees with you - but just like so many said in these pages that the US wasn't ready for a black president - and as Debra said, the Confederate flag came down - gay marriage is legal.

Obama already walked us through a form of universal healthcare...

I think he can win. Anyway. We shall see. Keep your fingers crossed.

About 90% are covered, though a lot of them can not afford to use the coverage. And our healthcare system more than anything else is what is bankrupting this nation, not leaving enough for the government to provide vital services, which has been the situation for awhile and Obama chose to ignore the problem and did in fact make it worse. If you want to call that a win that is on you, bit it betrays your ignorance of reality, it proves that you are incapable of evaluating and prioritizing.

@Debra Law,
I don't think the core of the man - Obama - changed from someone who had a passion for all the things he campaigned on, to someone who didn't care. I think the transition from campaigning to governing is a rough one for the POTUS - any POTUS. Not to mention that Obama's opposition was unprecedented in putting up blind partisan hate-fueled obstacles. The reach of campaigning courtship (even Bernie's) will always be exceeded by the grasp of real-world politics, and what can actually be accomplished.

@snood,
Obama has maintained his dignity despite the unprecedented irrational obstructionist bullshit he's had to deal with. He authorized the operation that ended Osama Bin Laden, did we celebrate??? Those of us who worked DOD did, Republicans in Congress moved on as if it was business as usual, and wondered if they could work the narrative into Obama's foray into confiscating guns.

Yesterday, another deranged hate filled asshole killed 2 people in a Louisana movie theater. Big cheers to the NRA who has been protecting gun freedom since the Oklahoma Federal Building bombing, Columbine, Connecticut, and the Charleston Church Massacre. Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people. (There have been 16 gun massacres since Obama took office, I didn't list all of them)

From the opinion The Lafayette theatre shooting was the 204th mass shooting in the US this year – 204 days into 2015

Quote:
“Those who live in America, or visit it, might do best to regard [mass shootings] the way one regards air pollution in China: an endemic local health hazard which, for deep-rooted cultural, social, economic and political reasons, the country is incapable of addressing,” The Economist wrote in response to the Charleston massacre. “This may, however, be a bit unfair. China seems to be making progress on pollution.”
