Actually there has been some infighting within gay rights groups in recent years as they have requested that "flaming" drag queens and shows of outrageous behavior be eliminated from gay pride gatherings. It seems that some with America's gay culture do not want to be judged or associated with the fringes of gay culture in the minds of straight America.

Well, a reasonable approach. Why to disgust average people deliberately?

steissd, I would assume some have a tendency to go overboard when they have been repressed for so long. c.i.

The gay pride parade in Toronto is one of the biggest events in town each year. People come from around the world to participate and attend - local families attend with their children, much as they attend the Santa Claus parade. I guess Torontonians aren't average.

Haven't you heard of Enza, tresWill? Enza, supermodel - the tallest free-standing transvestite mayoral candidate in North America (that was actually on her posters). Man oh man, i love this city!

Yeah, tres, I see the people of Toronto as being much taller - in their humanity. It's great that the parents are immune to the fears of most bigoted parents who think the gay lifestyle is 'learned.' Wink c.i.

Well, do not you think, C.I., that the Toronto parents take their kids to such a parade with the same purpose they take them to the zoo: just to show them something exotic and unusual?

I am not afraid of the crocodiles either: when they are kept in the zoo.

Of course, gay lifestyle is not learned, it is innate; a kind of genetic aberration. Unlike AIDS, it is not infectious either. So, there is nothing to be scared of. But, esthetically, their parades (I have seen one on the TV) are bizarre and non-attractive.

steissd, I don't find any good reason for myself to attend those gay parades, but I would never insist that they stop this practice just because it doesn't attract me. There are also music and art that doesn't attract my attention, but I realize that these things are very subective for the individual. My crying about why other people enjoy them is a foolish way to spend my time and energy. Some christians believe they are doing "god's" work. c.i.

I think the gay lifestyle is learned. I also think that responding erotically to the same sex is probably a variable part of the psyche of all human beings; some experience this more, some less. Some embrace it (choose to act on it) early, some later, and some never do. Lastly, I believe the choice of whether to act upon it can be influenced by the attitudes and actions of others around us.

Average response, IMHO, is not so much favorable to gays. I guess, they make a mistake when they arrange such parades, these only enhance homophobia. As far as I know, straight people in general do not make a big issue of the ways they make love, and do not demonstrate this in public.
There is actually no element of this post which you have right. Unless, that is, you've never set foot in a discoteque and if you live in a community of bigots who have neither the intellectual capacity nor the courage to think a unique thought. I acknowledge that this is possible and that you are quite comfortable there.

Yes, like taking the kids for a drive to look at those weird Hassidim not presently in zoos.

tres, Is it "forced?" I don't think so. Free choice amongst consenting adults. Why are you so concerned what others do in their bedrooms? c.i.

About Hassidic Jews: absolutely agree. Their moronic appearance causes misconcept of what do the Jews look like, and promotes anti-Semitism. About disco clubs: I am afraid, I am a bit old to attend such places, regardless of my being conservative or not, they are intended for teenagers: I ceased being the one 20 years ago.

Tres

Sure, all 'lifestyles' are learned, and propensities are innate. Same sex interactions are common in primates and throughout the animal world in general, there's nothing at all unusual or unnatural about such. Thus the really interesting question is why anyone gets in a tizzy about it.

Of course, by 'tizzy' we can refer to something a little less frivolous. Here in Vancouver just today, a 19 year old was arrested for bludgeoning a gay man to death when this perpetrator was only 17.

No one should kill the other for his or her sexual propensities. But no one is supposed to be in contact with gays, if he or she rejects their lifestyle, even if it is innate.
