@bobsal u1553115,
He may have screwed up with some of his financial deregulation, but his overriding legacy in this country is one of peace. Tories are very keen to bang on about the "special relationship" and how important it supposedly is for Britain, but since WW2 it seemed very much a one way street.

Notwithstanding claims about the benefits of intelligence sharing, Clinton's NI peace initiative was the first substantive benefit to us. And it's an enduring one. It trumps (sorry to use that word,) all of his failings big time.

@bobsal u1553115,
Or those who simply think she is not as bad as she made out to be and it is better to elect a democrat no matter what with an open seat at the supreme court and possibly more to come. These judges are there for life, it is huge deal which can't be overstated.

@McGentrix,
Quote McGentrix:
Quote:
of those 16 million jobs, how many did Clinton actually create?

His economic stimulus package got the economy rolling again. It's his policies that did the work.

Although quite a lot of jobs were pretty directly attributable to Clinton personally, there's Drudge who invented an industry going after Clinton on the internet, there's Cliff Jackson who offered to pay off Arkansas state troopers if they make up bad stuff about Clinton, there's a whole talk radio phenomenon of screaming idiots shouting that Clinton had 20 people killed on the way up....

Oh The Irony...
Hillary Clinton Ad in Michigan Derides Companies Moving Overseas
NICK CORASANITI - NYT
MARCH 8, 2016

The Message

As the ad says, “She’s with us.”

Fact Check

McDermott International completed one of the first corporate inversions, in 1982. Though the ad mentions Tyco’s 1997 inversion, it does not mention Tyco’s more recent union with Johnson Controls, which is benefiting from Tyco’s Irish address. As Mrs. Clinton’s critics have noted, the Tyco-Johnson Controls deal was negotiated in part by the firm of one of her campaign’s financial bundlers, and Johnson Controls has donated heavily to the Clinton Global Initiative.

Where

On broadcast and cable stations in Michigan.

Takeaway

None of the companies mentioned was based in Michigan, but the state has been hammered by job losses, and the commercial puts Mrs. Clinton squarely on the side of workers against greedy bosses — right where her Democratic rival, Senator Bernie Sanders, has long positioned himself.

Terrible mistakes were made during the Clinton presidency, that is a given. I think we all know those now. That she recognizes them and is aware they did more harm then good, it a step. No one is perfect, and noone can predict the future.
Its better then the GOP that still believe Iraq was the right choice and defend it by blaming Obama. Its so damn obvious that was the wrong choice, and I was sick when we ACTUALLY invaded Iraq. Anyone who has read a 4th grade school book on the history of the middle east should have known better.
I am disappointed she voted yes. As far as I am concerned, its the biggest X on her record for me. But what other choice is there? Trump? God help us all!

@Lilkanyon,
The mistakes Bill Clinton made might have done more harm than good, but taken as whole, his presidency did a lot more good than harm, I feel.

On her vote for the Iraq war, I just want to say two things. First, she was given faulty information, like the rest of the Senate.

Second, I think you are assuming that because she voted for the resolution to allow Bush to go to war, that if she gets to the White House she will act like Bush did. I don't believe so. If you take a look at Bill in Yugoslavia, where armed forces were going town to town slitting the throats of the citizenry because of ancient hatreds, Clinton ended that with a minimum of bloodshed for them and no bloodshed for Americans. I think that is more indicative how Hillary will govern than that one vote for Iraq which was passed almost unanimously.

@Blickers,
Oh! I dont assume she will make that same mistake at all! I think she is capable of learning from those mistakes and being better for it. I think I expanded on that in a different post. I agree that Clinton did well. Where he failed, was in the black populations. I think they would disagree he did better good then harm. Yet they still support her overwhelmingly, even over Sanders. Tbh? I find that a weird canundrum. Why? It spits in the face of Romneys claim that the only reason Obama won was because Obama promised, "free stuff." Clinton does not promise anything for free. Thats maybe why she is more realistic then Sanders?
I was on the fence about the two, at first. Then I saw an interview with Sanders where he went on and on about how young people need to rise up for a "revolution." It sounded ridiculous and unrealistic. Like he was trying to recapture the 60's and the anti-racism/anti-vietnam anger. Things arent great in this country. If there needs to be a "revolution". It should be record turnouts for congressional seats at the polls. Yes, its gerrymandered in parts of the US. But America needs to understand the president cant fix the country alone. Dems need to vote, not just for prez but for their state govt, their local reps, all of it!

@Lilkanyon,
I think the record shows Bill did very well for black America, which is why they are loyal to him. Some critics talk about the anti-crime bill, but here is the FBI statistics for number of black murder victims before and after Bill Clinton took office, (hope Lash is watching, too Very Happy ).

Under Bush I
1987......8,998
1988......9,956
1989.....10,566
1990.....11,487
1991.....12,227
1992.....11,777

Bill Clinton Takes Office
1993.....12,433
1994.....11,854
1995.....10,442
1996.......9,473
1997.......8,841
1998.......7,933
1999.......7,139
2000.......7,425

Under the murder rate of black victims in Bush I's last year, there would be 94,216 black people murdered in the years 1993 through 2000. Instead, under Bill Clinton 75,540 black people were murdered in those years. Overall, the murder rate with black victims went down 37% from Bush I's last year to Clinton's last year. Bill Clinton's presidency saved over 18,000 black lives.

@Blickers,
Cuz they are all locked up I suppose? The sick got caught in the same net as the vicious? I can see that. I hope we can finally help the sick now, and leave the vicious where they belong.

@Blickers,
PS: During Clinton's two terms, Full Time jobs increased for all races 16.7%, which is a very good rate of increase. Know how much Full Time jobs for blacks increased? 29.7%. That's nearly twice the rate for the general population.

When Bush II came in, for his two terms Full Time jobs for all races increased a mere 0.3%. For Bush II's two terms, Full Time jobs for blacks didn't increase at all. They declined 1.9%.

Full Time jobs under Clinton, all races:
1993 Q1......96.528 Million Full Time jobs
2001 Q1....112.654 Million Full Time jobs
Result: Increase of 16.7%

Full Time jobs under Clinton, blacks:
1993 Q1......9.954 Million Full Time jobs
2001 Q1....12.912 Million Full Time jobs
Result: Increase of 29.7%

So you see, for black people Clinton's two terms were a time of relatively booming employment opportunities and a reversal of the awful wave of violence and murder that had beset the country.

@Blickers,
I like those statistics! I am a Bill Clinton fan too, but I was not a political watcher in his day. I was a bit young and "distracted." His past record is coming out haunts his wifes campaign though. Ugly stories of Nafta (I remember but hardly paid attention to), DOMA (understandable given the political climate, dont ask dont tell...again...trying to please the middle...). Actually! Thinking on it! Dont ask Dont tell is a prime example of compromise! It was an amazing breakthrough for gays in its day. Not perfect, but no longer forced to lie on their military applications. Clinton paved the road for eventually full gay rights. But he did it in a slow, sliding slope sorta way the GOP fears. DOMA was another compromise to keep the GOP from going postal. Regrettably, Obama, I believe, is not very good at the political game. His ideals are too important. Clinton, on the other hand. I believe her ideals are important too. The difference is...like it or not...politics is a game...moving the chess pieces the right way. I think she can do that, especially with the insight of her husband, which I greatly respect. I think he understands his mistakes too. Who else? Trump? Cruz? Cruz! The non compromising, anti american Texan blowhard that thinks cuz his state says it is, thats the way it should be. Texans better wake up. The LEGAL latinos will outvote you some day. Better get a grip on that.

@Blickers,
He did deregulate wall street though. Exactly what the GOP loves...and it led to this recession. Noone foresaw this. Maybe he bought into the GOP retoric that dereg is good for the economy, idk. I believe the regs need an overhaul, like taxes...way out of date...but not scrapped completely. A good audit and study and recommendations would be a start.

@Blickers,
Actually, history has show us that democratic presidents have done very well for all Americans vs republican presidents. The republican tax cuts for the rich while our national debt increases is a losing proposition for all Americans. It's going to eventually bite all of us in the behind, and it's going to hurt like hell.

@cicerone imposter,
Bush Jr is a prime example. Who sends us to war, and gives tax cuts at the same time? Plus medicare Part D which just sucked the dicks of big pharma. Now we are in the worst deficit hole ever and they blame dems! Bobby Jindal, the govner of LA was given a surplus when he came to the govnership, now LA in a huge hole. Kansas! A tea party govner, got ridof taxes wholey thinking it would boost the economy. Now the state cant afford to educate their students in public school. Its a joke!
I dont mind paying my taxes. I know they pay the salaries of the fire dept, police, sewer workers, road crews, ect ect...its called BEING A PART OF A SOCIETY! i dont understand how we lost that.

@Lilkanyon,
Some people think taxes are a crime against their freedoms. There's no cure for stupid. Somebody has to pay for our children's education, police and fire departments, public libraries, and community hospitals.
As long as republicans fight against taxes, they'll always have their supporters. They're as ignorant as Trump. What more need be said.

@cicerone imposter,
You are right. The anti tax groups will always have supporters. That reminds me. Trump was asked about his tax returns. He said his returns would show low taxes paid to the govt cuz he disagreed with how our tax dollars are spent. Its just an excuse you know to be greedy. No matter how efficient our govt is with taxes, some greedy SOB will not be happy. I pay my taxes, be assured there is nothing left over for a yacht. Yet these rich, greedy assholes complain about taxes when I am thankful to be an american and then they call me stupid for paying taxes! I hate those that critisize me for paying the taxes then paying the damn taxes!

@Lilkanyon,
I know what you mean about Michigan, I got complacent, (they really hate NAFTA) now I am tempted to bite my nails. Apparently there is still a prescient that is still out but it is starting to come in which is going Clinton's way but I am not sure it is going to be enough. Probably Sanders will barely win Michigan. On the hand, Miss. went Clinton and pretty sure she won the delegate count tonight.
