It were Pinky all right. I saw him in the Fresno parade one year. At the time my sole focus was on Hopalong Cassidy, who rode in it also, so I barely acknowledged Pinky.

Peter Lorre and Steve McQueen played in a strange story about a gambler in an Alfred Hitchcock episode. What was the name of the story?

Wrong Direction.

OK, OK this has gone on long enough. It was "Man from the South", one of my favorite short stories that was televised in the "good old days".

Which program featured Bruce Dern and Pat Butram, plus a fine actress whose name eludes me; Bruce wanders onto the farm and gets hired by Pat to pick fruit. He begins a terror campaign against the wife by first murdering her pet squirrel.

This was the single program that established Dern as a superb character actor.

edgarblythe- I have to admit that this really intrigued me, and I found the answer.........but only through research:

Good grief! That was 41 years ago.

Then you know it was an episode of a series that featured a different cast and storyline each week. In the end, the wife murdered Pat Butram and called the cops to tell them the drifter (Dern) just killed her husband. You knew he was going to get the chair for it.

This network show was stopped in mid airing because Fabian was too convincing in the part of a killer.

Qualifier: It may not have been stopped in every city it aired. The episode was regarded as the probable reason the show was abruptly canceled.
