Hardly a day goes by when some spammer posts a link to a revolutionary new treatment for Low T, cellulite, or other malady. These are generally removed within hours. Hard core porn will experience similar cyber death

Thankfully the standard is you can write pretty much whatever you please, and if it offends anyone they have the means to remove it from their sight without infringing upon anyone else's right to read it and engage it.

Or do you want Moderators always at the ready with their all-powerful delete buttons so that you can be prevented from opening a thread with a title that probably should tip you off that you will find it offense, actually laying eyes on the offensive material and then having to leave the thread or thumb down a comment?

That sort of moderation probably is expensive and it would never be funded by me.

These links should help you discover the standards set by the site owner and how he wants the content moderated by the people he has appointed to do so.

For the most part, it is self moderating. Each person has the ability to edit their view of the site content to their own individual taste via the ignore button, thumbs and report button. They cannot edit anyone else's view of content they find disagreeable. They can use the report button on specific posts to alert a moderator to a post they think violates the TOS for further investigation.

As for Miller's proposal, i doubt she speaks for the site owner or has a clue as to the site's financial needs. Robert does a good job of speaking for himself when he feels the need to do so.

According to Jespah's past posts, the identity of moderators is kept confidential to allow them to continue to post as themselves, so any posts claiming anything in that regard are suspect.

Agreed

Good idea lest they suffer the slings and arrows of outraged posters who claim to have been moderated.

Are fiction-based threads acceptable?
If someone posts a thread denying that the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor,
or denying that the 3rd Reich invaded Austria, must thay be removed? How about spacemen ?

beth, finn and butterflynet have made excellent post that address the standard, i couldn't say better

and as david said, what about UFO discussions or NWO, or 9/11 conspiracies, they're as valid as holocaust denial, though only 9/11 gets the same visceral reactions

just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it should go away, if my standard for tv was law, 90% of programming would be gone

I understand free speech. I understand protected speech. I understand fighting words. I am not advocating censorship.But if there is censorship (and there is here) it needs to be understood what it is specifically and it needs to be applied fairly and consistently.

In the end, how is custom kitchens so bad it needs to be censored but Rosa's calling mixed race people "hybred" so all right?

Back to the moderator question:

I rarely report anything to a moderator. The last time, I requested that two posts be removed was about 1 (?) year ago.

The person I reported, called me "white trash" on one thread and then about 15 min later, on another thread, this person called me "Jew trash".

I don't mind being called white trash since these words have no baring on my professional, social, or even economic status.

Calling me "Jew Trash" however, was a different matter. I'm thankful that a moderator acted quickly to remove both of the relevant threads.
