you and Tsar read like Siskel and Ebert. You should think about doing a movie review blog. Tsar does the stuff with statistics and data and you talk out of your ass.

That would be more convincing if you could point out errors in my analysis.

The thing is, neither Siskel or Ebert talked out of their ass the way hawkeye10 does.

If A2K is still here when the next movie comes out I will give you your " I told you so" when it opens much slower than this one does, assuming that I am right that thus one is a dude, which will be proven next weekend with a greater than 60% drop off from this weekend.

No, as I and others have noted, Edwards modeled his Godzilla—deliberately or not—less on the structure of these films than on that of the many inferior Godzilla sequels. In those movies, like this one, some new monstrosity rears its ugly head (Ghidora, the Smog Monster, Mechagodzilla, etc.) and rampages across Japan until Godzilla shows up to restore balance. Sound familiar? For the record, I love these movies for their campy grandeur. But they are not the model I would have chosen for a $160 million reboot (nor, for that matter, the model Edwards seems to think he did choose). For a sequel? Maybe. But to reintroduce moviegoers to Godzilla as a wholly reactive figure in a movie whose plot is overwhelmingly dependent on some new, not particular interesting monsters seems a mistake to me.

But that’s just me. Obviously, many, many people liked Godzilla a lot more than I did, and I’m not trying to persuade anyone that they were wrong to do so. But as long as some discussion had arisen on the question of whether Edwards used his Godzilla too sparingly, I wanted to clarify my critique: It’s not the lack of Godzilla screen time, it’s the lack of Godzilla focus.

Meshes well with another critic who says that this movie is two movies (only one of which is about Godzilla) which have been mashed up, and that neither movie is particularly good. The evidence is rolling in that there was a strong appetite for a reboot, but that it was botched.

Once an awhile, every so often, and it wasn't so often that Id say it was a continuous bad habit, Siskel would leave the planet.

@farmerman,
IMHO, that's what made him a bit more interesting than Ebert - this difference in their contrasting approaches.

The hopes that the Japanese will like this version are headed south. Godzilla is heavily criticized for being an American fatty, and the movie does not even release there till next month.

that's one guys opinion. I strongly disagree, with the exception of the 'gojira' introduction by the boat driver

@tsarstepan,
So, statistics prove that todays Godzilla retread is a bit better than the 1998 Godzilla retread?

OK, I guess. I suppose that, by statistics, we can prove that it is possible to polish a turd.

@farmerman,
I'm not claiming the film is Oscartastic (though it could very likely get a handful of technical nods like special effects and sound). It's just a fun flick.

Do you really think every movie should be a Merchant Ivory Production?

@tsarstepan,
not at all. I love westerns , even bad ones. However, most of these monster flicks have NO story that is mildly detectable. Ever since "Men In Blck" all the monster and superhero movies Ive watched were so single formulaic that Ive decided the entire genre should be avoided.
Of Course , Im not the target audience. I think the desired demographic for these I roughly 11 to 15 year old
