So the US standard of living is clearly creeping downward. We can argue whether that is Obama's fault or not, but using private college tuition as the metric is not going to show it. Here is Harvard's tuition and fees price for a few decades. Under the current administration, Harvard has been a bit restrained compared to previous times. Harvard has also increased grants and loans during this period distorting the numbers further. It's all pretty bogus. I graduated from a private school but wouldn't even consider suggesting it for my children due to the outrageous fees they charge today.
