@blueveinedthrobber,

also no mention of sex-trade workers and there are plenty of studies about the high suicide rate in that group

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1934508/

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1481550/

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=13822460

Quote:
A history of attempted suicide was reported by 76% of the participants and the analysis revealed themes of isolation, rejection/betrayal, lack of control, and most centrally, low self-worth as forming the basis of their experiences concerning suicide. Additionally it was found that trading sex, in which most participants had been or were currently involved, was linked with their suicidal experiences and may account for the high attempt rate.

http://www.cmaj.ca/content/171/2/109.full

Quote:
Foremost among the health risks of prostitution is premature death. In a recent US study of almost 2000 prostitutes followed over a 30-year period, by far the most common causes of death were homicide, suicide, drug- and alcohol-related problems, HIV infection and accidents — in that order. The homicide rate among active female prostitutes was 17 times higher than that of the age-matched general female population.2

if they missed this group, I'm not ready to trust that they didn't also miss workers in the porn industry

"Could be?"

ehBeth provided you with enough evidence for you to determine that she is or is not right.

Is this BiPo's way of saving face while saying: "I was wrong"?

Interesting article in Rolling Stone
http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/the-blue-devil-in-miss-belle-knox-meet-duke-porn-star-miriam-weeks-20140423

And the LA Times weighs in.
Is 'Duke Porn Star' Belle Knox a feminist or a troubled young woman?

@panzade,
Thanks, I'll read those. I've been following the thread, get everyones' points of view, pretty well expressed. Can't just come up with a good paragraph about what I think about all this since I'm working on that.

I am capable of incompatible takes on the same thing - for example, I have paid worried attention to the problem of football concussions (even wondering about something similar in futbol) for years and years, but strongly like the game and play fantasy football for fun (no profit, heh).

No Finn, it's me giving respect to someone I respect and like. You wouldn't know anything about that.

Yeah the posts here are good.
I can't decide whether Belle is a bullshit artist or a passionate feminist or just a scared Freshman.

Porn Stars Get The Shaft From Morgan-Chase Bank
Quote:
According to CEO of the Electronic Transactions Associations, at The Hill, Jason Oxman commented: “Despite being in good financial standing, adult film performers and others in the porn industry have had bank accounts abruptly terminated—and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) may have had something to do with it.

@ossobuco,
With all due respect, comparing the NFL to the Porn Industry is well off the mark, in so may ways.

Even the least talented NFL player is compensated at a rate which is well in excess of the average American and, likely, 99% of all porn "actors," and "actresses."

Players in the NFL are true employees or contracted agents, there is no case of a young football player from Minnesota coming to The Big Apple and being drawn into seedy games played in a cheap hotel room; lucky to get paid in money rather than bruises.

There is no level of professional or semi-professional football that even remotely compares to the "black market" porn industry.

Football players were, it now seems, deceived by the league about the effects of multiple concussions.

There isn't a Porn Organization that could even be accused of deceiving the "players" of the risks they take.

The comparison isn't apples to oranges, it's apples to skyscrapers.

What is so deeply disturbing about the support evidenced for this woman's unfortunate "feminist" justification for her behavior, is the way in which people will allow certain ideologically motivated presumptions to override what is clearly in from of them.

"Americans are hung up on sex."

"Whatever a woman does with her body is undeniably acceptable."

Perhaps I don't understand the Liberal mind as well as I think I do, but the last people I would have thought would defend the porn industry are liberal feminists.

But then I didn't think that liberal feminists would excuse Bill Clinton and join in the demonizing of his victims.

@Finn dAbuzz,
It is a lot like when women claim that getting so wasted on alcohol that they lose control of themselves is a right gained through feminism. The argument goes that anything not prohibited by law is a valid choice, and no choices of others should be objected to because women are free now.
