There is NO whistleblower exception whatsoever.

Therefore that route was closed to Snowden right from the start. There was no legal way for him to alert the public. That's an important piece of the puzzle.

The lawmakers of the coalition government in the (German) parliamentary NSA inquiry panel have decided to question Snowden in Moscow.
The opposition will file an action at the Federal Constitutional Court, because they want him to witness in Berlin.

According to to the panel's chairman - quoting the president of the BND - they have until today no evidence that US-agencies spied on the panel and/or got documents from it.

@Olivier5,
Possibly, but it would have been a whole lot easier to pardon him.

@Walter Hinteler,
Sometimes, I have hard time getting exactly what you mean, my fault, not yours.

When you say no proof until today, does that mean today they have proof? I thought they had proof when they found the double agent was giving one of our intelligence agents documents and such?

@Olivier5,
The whole reason the data collecting was set up was to catch terrorist, it is a fact.

In my opinion...there is nothing he had to "alert the public" about.

HE decided that what the NSA was doing was "wrong"...and decided to take the steps he did.

In my opinion...what the NSA was doing seems to be reasonable.

I have not been the one arguing that he had other options open. I am saying he was working for an intelligence agency...and should have come to grips with what that means.

That's very speculative. The fact remains: there was no legal way for him to get that info to the public.

There are some people who are going to insist that the reason the NSA is doing what it is doing...is because the NSA has decided they want to make the USA into a police state.

Nothing you can do about those people, Revelette. They are going to stick with that scenario come hell or high water.

I think the NSA was trying to collect information that might deter terrorism in this country. Until I see evidence that counters that...it seems the reasonable explanation for what they were doing.

Which means you think he did it in an illegal way.

I, on the other hand, want him to get a fair trial to determine if what he did was illegal.

If it was...he deserves punishment...no matter how much some people want to see him as some sort of hero.

According to what the president of the spy agency is said to have exclaimed, they have no proof that documents of the parliamentary panel were spied on by the USA.
He didn't seem to have said anything about other documents - besides that, the police (here: the Federal Prosecution ordered the Federal Criminal Investigation Office to do the job) is investigating for the prosecution.

@revelette2,
We all know that institutions can be created to do one thing and end up doing another. It's called "mission creep". This is what's happening here, and it is a serious case of it. The programs have been used to collect commercial and industrial secrets and sabotage the Copenhagen climate talks, for instance. IOW, they are used to sabotage our kids' future so that a few filthy rich American folks will keep amassing more money. Sorry but that pisses me off. I couldn't care less about Merkel, but I do care about my kids.

Once more bullshit the best that can be said that it is the excused given to set up an infrastructure able to do massive spying on the bulk of the human race.

Got that wrong, sorry.
It was the Federal Attorney General of Germany who said that (just saw it on tv). He really should know the facts.

Right.

Just because they are interested in what you and your wife say to each other in emails...right?

C'mon, Bill...work the grassy knoll into your thoughts.

Any chance of a link...so we know what actually was said...and by whom? I'd love for it to be in English...but if it is in German...you should be able to help us.

You are being kinder then I think is call for as after the cold war the intelligence community was looking at very large budget cuts and the 911 event was a godsend as far as finding reasons to not only return that budget to the call war era but in fact go far beyond that as they was given a blank check as long as they could claim it had anything to do with fighting terrorism.

Why not try the NSA to determine if what they are doing is legal? You don't want that fair trial?

It is a work in progress, Olivier...a process, if you will.

You have been watching it.

It'll finally dawn on you.
