From The Intercept: Barack Obama’s Secret Terrorist-Tracking System, by the Numbers
Quote:
Nearly half of the people on the U.S. government’s widely shared database of terrorist suspects are not connected to any known terrorist group, according to classified government documents obtained by The Intercept.

Of the 680,000 people caught up in the government’s Terrorist Screening Database—a watchlist of “known or suspected terrorists” that is shared with local law enforcement agencies, private contractors, and foreign governments—more than 40 percent are described by the government as having “no recognized terrorist group affiliation.” That category—280,000 people—dwarfs the number of watchlisted people suspected of ties to al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah combined.

Seems, that's not from the Snowden documents:

@Eliusa,
You're wrong on every count! I've voted in every election since I was 18 years old; I'm now 79. I served my country for four years in the USAF. I served on the second longest trial in Santa Clara County in California that lasted three months. I served on the 2003-2004 Santa Clara County Grand Jury. Our Grand Jury was the most productive in our county until that time. I have written to my congressional reps and to several presidents about my concerns. Nothing happened; but they managed to insult me.

I worked in management positions for 88% of my working career. Raised two boys with an excellent partner for over 50 years. We are proud of our two sons; the oldest graduated summa cum laude, and the younger son graduated cum laude from college.

Do you mean to tell me that my contributions to my country doesn't allow me to bitch about the broken government we have today? A congress with an approval rating at 13% - the lowest in our country's history?

Do you even understand the Constitution of the US that allows for 'free speech?"

I notice ci responded to your comments here.

He lists all the things he thinks give him the right to piss and moan and bitch nearly every day...in a majority of his posts about what a loathsome, disgusting place the United States is. (Actually, he doesn't have to list any of that stuff...he can piss and moan and bitch as much as he likes in this country...because that is the way we operate here.)

Not sure why someone detests this country as much as he does...and continues to live here, so I suggested to him that if he hated it so much ...why not just leave.

I think that is a reasonable question to ask him...and a reasonable suggestion for him to consider.

I do hope you enjoy his response as much as I did. What a bunch of nonsene babble it was!

@cicerone imposter,
I do apologize, I had never thought about it from your perspective.

So what can we do to make our children lives safer? You've seen good times. Is there any way we go back to it?

Yeah, and thanks for telling about your family. It made ME proud, so I am imagining how proud you must feel!

@Eliusa,
Continue to support the educational system for our children; it's becoming too expensive, and that discourages many qualified students from continuing their education. Education is the key to everything else concerning our country's ability to remain competitive in this world.

A better educated population cures many of the antisocial problems in any city or country.

Advocate for a more fair distribution of income; CEO's now make 300 times (some show 475%) the average earnings of their company. That's way beyond all the developed countries in this world.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/oct/10/facebook-posts/viral-facebook-post-ceo-worker-pay-ratio-has-obscu/

Greed is an illness. The CEO's in the US do not 'earn' what they receive in pay and benefits. Fairness and ethics are no longer considered when the companies wealth is unequally distributed. When the profits of the company are more equally distributed, everybody gains. Middle class income will increase; demand for goods and services will increase that will result in more job creation. That's Econ 101.

@Frank Apisa,
WOW! You 2 like white and black, hot and cold!
I think I was thinking more about foreigners who come here for free cheese and even when they get it all - they are still bitching.
We are just having our business on a middle of it.

But I say suggesting to a person who are Americans by generations is kind of nor fair. Don't you think so?

A suggestion is just a suggestion, Eliusa.

If a person were telling you...I absolutely hate "So You Think You Can Dance"...it is the worst program on television...it is dull...the people are silly and ugly...the dancing is like a first grade dance school. It is without a doubt the worst program television has ever aired.

And says that every time you ever speak about television.

Wouldn't you suggest the person not watch "So You Think You Can Dance?"

And if you find out that the person watches every episode...never turning away from the set even during commercials...wouldn't you think it odd?

ci has piss and moaned and groaned...and in general indicated that he detests this country; abhors what it stands for; wouldn't piss on most of it citizens if they were on fire...

...yet here he lives...enjoying life and all the benefits this country provides.

So...I have respectfully and graciously suggested an alternative for him.

Move somewhere else...where you will be happy.

Perhaps though, the problem is that ci is not a very happy person...and nowhere is ever going to be decent and nice enough for him.

Thanks for asking, Eliusa.

So the other sixty something percent do have terrorist connections. The ones that don't presumably will be left alone.

Yeah, this is easy to turn off TV set and no, some people watching train wreck shows just to have a say if discussion about it if happened.

Leaving whole life behind is not as turning off TV. So he is moaning. I might be able to understand when I am that accomplished and older;)

I hope when you are older, Eliusa...and more mature than many of the people who ARE older than you now...

...you do not "understand" that kind of nonsense, because it is unacceptable in truly adult citizens.

Bad-mouthing America at every opportunity from within...is nothing but crap. Finding things wrong...and efforting to correct them makes plenty of sense...but that is not what some of the people here are doing.

They are crabs...sorta like the kind found on beaches around the world. They moan and groan and lament and despise and abhor and scorn and...well, you get what I am hinting about here.

If anyone hates it here as much as some of these people...if anyone finds America and its people to be so replant that they find themselves constantly and regularly voicing disgust with it...

...especially those who claim it cannot be made better and who are dropping out of the voting and just living the luxury life instead...

...yeah, they ought to be told that it makes sense for them to get the hell out.

And then...ya just kinda hope they do.

The problem are there are more CEOs that had driven companies into the bankruptcy courts while at the same time getting millions and sometime hundreds of millions of dollars from those companies.
