@izzythepush,
As Eddie has already confessed what would be the point of torturing him? And who would do the torturing? He's a civilian. Anybody torturing him would be putting himself at risk. A female torturer is out of the question.

If he came back voluntarily the argument that he might flee would carry no weight in refusing him bail.

Apisa uses the phrase "coming back" as if it is as simple as that.

What procedures does Apisa recommend? Eddie is now no more than a pawn in the game.

Suppose he implicated others.

Yeah, I figured that.

You seem to have contempt for the US.

Hey...if you were over here, we'd say, "That's your right. It's a free country."

You pretty much scorn your own country, ci.

You are freer here than you would have been decades ago...and you know it.

But...you are a chronic complainer...chronic bitcher and moanere...

...so you need to complain, bitch, and moan in order to make your life worth living.

Do it. It is your right. It is a free country.

It would be wonderful if Snowden came back, you could torture the **** out of him so he'll say whatever you want him to say. Just like you did with Manning.

No, I don't think that is what happened, Izzy.

But it seems to make you happy to show contempt for the US...so knock yourself out. Wink

@Frank Apisa,
Contempt? Track record. You tortured Manning, why should Snowden be treated any differently? Guantanamo Bay still stands.

Close down Guantanamo and stop torturing people.

Englishmen should never bring up track records, Iz.

No percentage! All downside.

Okay, I'll send out the order tomorrow.

You coordinate with your PM and get your place ready for the delivery.

They'll be your problem from tomorrow on.

@Frank Apisa,
I'm talking about what's going on now. Bradley Manning was tortured in the last few years. You set up Guantanamo, you're the ones who need to close it down, just as Obama promised he would do in his inaugural speech. You can start by sending Shaker Aamer back home.

@izzythepush,
There really is no connection between what unfortunately happened with Bradley Manning and what would happen with Edward Snowden. Edward Snowden is not in the military and he wouldn't be put in a military prison nor tried in a military court. Despite the conspiracy nuts among us, Obama is not going to declare Edward Snowden an enemy combatant, he would have already done so if he was going to.

@Frank Apisa,
I had much respect for the country the US used to be. But respect can be earned and lost. How can anyone respect a country that behaves with such callous stupidity, again and again, pretty much since the Lewinsky affair, then the election of W, then Iraq and Abu Ghaib and Gitmo, then the financial crisis, and now this mass spying frenzy... It's not just the contempt they have for the rest of the world, it's also the sheer stupidity at work behind the hubris.

I'm sorry but I don't believe you. Bradley Manning was tortured, and he received a sentence of 35 years, murderers get less time than that.

All the time the real criminals, the ones who authorised illegal mass surveillance, get away scot free.

@Olivier5,
Frank will "guess" that you're speaking as an America hater. I, as an American, agree with you 100%! I've always spoken up when our presidents did well and when they did real stupid stuff - especially with Obama and our congress.

From MPOV, I'm a better American did Frank will ever be. Why? Because I have written to my congressional reps and our presidents when I thought they should hear our voice. They 'NEVER DID." What they have accomplished is that I will never vote in national elections again. They have broken our country.

That old saying, power corrupts, has been lost on these idiots! Look at Chris Christie; a good example of government corruption. When they cross the line into illegal activities that's against our country's laws and international laws, those should be the clue.

They all think they're above the law. Like I said, we're are lead by idiots.

Izzy, I suspect if you Brits were not a third world power right now...you would be doing even worse. You would be perpetuating the "Britannia rules the waves"..."the sun never sets on the British Empire" thing.

But you are a third world power...so it is easy for some of you to do what you are doing...cloaking yourself in indignation and self-righteousness and telling the United States to act in a way that you were not able to act when you had power.

Frankly, the United States handles its power a hell of a lot better than your lot did when you had some.

Interesting! Well, we are a freer nation now than we were decades ago...so what turned you off...the fact that we got freer?

Oh, I see. Thank you for sharing that.

When France was a world power rather than another third world nation, it wielded its power in ways that make our use of our power look positively benign, Olivier.

Like Izzy, your indignation and self-righteousness is an excellent show...but no cigar.

You were...and you wielded your power like a chainsaw.

No Brit should ever indulge in name-calling about abuse of world might...because you guys were masters of it.

And except that you have none right now, I doubt that predisposition has changed.
