@revelette2,
I'm not on any "high horse." It's about challenges on posts that needs to be challenged for their lack of facts or history.

I also expect people to challenge whatever opinion I post on a2k. I find that to be fair.

Anyone is free to Ignore any poster. I even have a handful of folks who are bores by repeating ad nauseum the same message or those who post bull shyt most of the time (lack of credible sources or common sense), they're on my Ignore list.

Ahhhh...that is just what we need right now. Another committee...with the power to "remit" a report!!!

And the select committee is going to say that the courts do not have the power the Constitution grants them???

Who would select this "select committee"...the president?

The congress?

Edward Snowden?

C'mon!

Anything in question will work its way up the court system...and be resolved.

But I don't think it will ever end up in a way that makes Edward Snowden a hero.

He broke laws...that are in existence right now.

He can come to trial...using the defenses NOW available to him.

But this is not all. The president and his lawyers now claim the authority to designate any American citizen he chooses as being an "enemy combatant"; and to define both "torture" and "material support" broadly. They claim the authority to give anyone in the executive branch the power to knock on your door, seize you on the street, or grab you as you are changing planes at Newark or Atlanta airports; blindfold you and put earphones on you; take you to a cell in a navy prison; keep you in complete isolation for months or even years; delay your trial again and again; and make it hard for you to communicate with your lawyer. The president claims the authority to direct agents to threaten you in interrogations and allow into your trial things you confessed to while you were being mistreated.

The president claims the authority to do any of those things to any American citizen now on his say-so alone. Let me repeat this: The president asserts that he can do this to you even if you have never committed a crime of any kind: "enemy combatant" is a status offense. Meaning that if the president says you are one, then you are.

How could anyone ignore any of you wonderful a2kers? For your minds are so beautiful. Why do you think it is so very difficult for me to not come here to this a2k site on a daily to weekly basis. I personally love all of you for how healthy your minds are.

Challenges. Definitely. This place makes you use your mind in ways you never thought you could. And I love the fact. I absolutely love when anyone wants to challenge my words turning the situation into an argument and/or debate.

And as far as ignoring folks. A lot of these folks love to test folks. To see what they can do to aggravate, agitate, else similar other folks. Games, mind games, tests, else more.

This place I find to be of many beautiful places.

It has to be better than doing nothing which is what you seem to be happy with.

Nothing?

Why are you distorting things so much, Izzy.

I have not advocated doing "nothing."

I am saying that the United States should do what our laws say should be done in cases like this...to allow the issue to move its way up the courts and ultimately be resolved by the SCOTUS. I am sure both the Snowden defense team and the government would appeal any adverse ruling.

I call to your attention that one way of dealing with the issue you seem so bothered about...would be for Edward Snowden to come back to the United States...mount the best defense he can...and then allow appeals to make their way through the courts.

The SCOTUS can then take the case and decide it...or refuse to take the case and allow the decision of the highest previous court to stand.

That is not "doing nothing" by any means...and you characterizing that way is apparently the result of not having a real rebuttal to offer. There is no reason for us to get into that kind of play, Izzy.

@Frank Apisa,
Hope is what we all do. You for instance hope that the harm done to your national pride will be avenged, and I hope the US can remain faithful to its constitution and democratic ideals.

Like I said, Olivier...nothing wrong with hoping.

And thank you so much for hoping that the US can remain faithful to its Constitution and democratic ideals.

I think we are.

@Walter Hinteler,
In other words, it seems that there will probably be a supreme court date for the ones bringing the lawsuit and the Obama administration discussing what the meaning of relevance is. ("depends on what the meaning of is, is.")

@revelette2,
Here's what you have to keep uppermost in your mind, Rev.
--------

Noam Chomsky: The phrase 'war on terrorism' should always be used in quotes, cause there can't possibly be a war on terrorism, it's impossible. The reason is it's led by one of the worst terrorist states in the world, in fact it's led by the only state in the world which has been condemned by the highest international authorities for international terrorism, namely the World Court and Security Council, except that the US vetoed the resolution.

@Frank Apisa,
It would be wonderful if Snowden came back, you could torture the **** out of him so he'll say whatever you want him to say. Just like you did with Manning.
