@neologist,
There is no such meaning to the word. Maybe that sort of idiocy is dear to the Watchtower, but there is absolutely no basis for your claim.

I'm not your "dear," goofball. Rather than bothered, i've just grown weary of Neo making up bullshit, or peddling the Watchtower line of bullshit.

The Romans, Greeks, jungle tribes etc all gave their "gods" names, but the Christian God has no name, so we're little better than them if we insult him by trying to slap a name on him..Smile

The word Yahweh/Jehovah is not a name, it simply translates as 'I am'.
In other words God is TOO BIG to have a name, he's simply a nameless power/spirit/force.
Moses asked God straight out what his name was-

"And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you" (Exodus 3:13:14)

I'm surprised you are not aware that many biblical words contain references to God's name in the tetragrammaton, Yahweh, Yah, Jehovah, Jah, are all shortened forms of God's name in either the Greek or Hebrew form. Similarly, these proper names are but a few of those incorporating some form of the divine name:
JEZANIAH
(Jez·a·ni′ah) [Jehovah Has Given Ear].
JEZREEL
(Jez′re·el) [God Will Sow Seed],
JOAB
(Jo′ab) [Jehovah Is Father].
JOAH
(Jo′ah) [Jehovah Is Brother ],
JOED
(Jo′ed) [Jehovah Is a Witness].
Not to mention the phrase often repeated by nominal christians:
(HALLELUJAH) [Praise Jehovah]
I'm not saying that Jesus Christ was the only one bearing the name Jesus or Yeshua. Nor was he the only one recognized as a messiah. Jesus Christ's unique position is defined in other ways.

As for Romeo's absurd claim that the christian God has no name, it fits in well with the Hebrew traditions Jesus so roundly condemned. It certainly does not fit with Jesus' admonition to 'hallow his father's name'.

A wonderful smoke screen of blather in which you provide no evidence for your claim.

@neologist,
The tetragammon does not appear in any of those names, nor does it appear in Yeshua.

The word "Jehovah" is not Gods name, but is simply based on the Jewish verb "to be" (ye-ho-wa), meaning "he who is", or "I am what I am".
Jesus referred to God as "God", "Father", "Creator", but NEVER as "Jehovah"..Smile
Even some angels don't have names,one said- "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding" (Judges 13:17/18 )
So i can't see God having a name either, and any attempt to give him one demeans and disrespects him in my view.
But if people want to call him 'Jehovah' it's none of my business and i'm sure satan is chuckling..Smile

@neologist,
Quote:
The name Yehoshua has the form of a compound of "Yeho-" and "shua": Yeho- יְהוֹ is another form of יָהו Yahu, a theophoric element standing for the name of God יהוח (the Tetragrammaton YHWH, sometimes transcribed into English as Yahweh or Jehovah), and שׁוּעַ shua‘ is a noun meaning "a cry for help", "a saving cry",[13][14][15] that is to say, a shout given when in need of rescue. Together, the name would then literally mean, "YHWH (Yahu) is a saving-cry," that is to say, shout to YHWH [God] when in need of help.
