As I said, I am still researching this, but it becomes clearer and clearer to me that time is an illusion, a fabric of the human mind.
But as I said, I might be wrong, I might be right. I'll see.

If the universe always existed, it is much much older than 13 bl years. And Earth too, probably. So why do you object to the idea that earth is as 'young' as 4.5 bl yrs?

Your idea that time is an illusion has nothing going for it. Not a iota of evidence. It's pure fantasy.

So, you haven't researched any of this yet, now have you?
It seems you don't know what you are talking about.

I do object because of the reasons stated, it is arguments are circular (like most arguments in biology and physics btw!) and based on very wrong assumptions.

Q…I disagree with Olivier completely in his last post to you.

Time…as with everything else that we term “the real world” MAY BE an illusion. To term it “pure fantasy” as Olivier does, is as illogical and unsupportable as someone who asserts “time is an illusion” as a fact.

As for what we call “the universe”…most scientists seem to have gone to a variation on “the known universe” and philosophers to a variation on “what we call the universe”…so as to allow for a megaverse; for co-existing universes; or for existence in some manner as yet unconceived by humans.

This thing we call “the universe” (with the qualifier that we suppose it is not an illusion)…does appear to be billions of years in existence…and the sun and Earth appear to be 4.5 or so billions of years in existence.

Arguing with that is silly...especially if done mostly to conform to a time line established by relatively unknowledgeable ancient Hebrews. You ought not to do it.

Well, you may think it is silly, but actually you are saying that I may not cricize modern nonsense.

As stated before, nice numbers, but I really don't think they are true, because of the already mentioned argument, circular reasoning and many flawed assumptions,

silly or not, I disagree with 'science'. and again NOT because of religious beliefs!

Disagree all you want, Q...and for whatever motivation you suppose. But to call into question the work of scientists over the years on these issues based on the reasons you are giving...seems like a wild guess (and an out of control ego) gone ape.

You tend to do that.

In any case, although I disagree with you strongly on much...I wanted to mention what I mentioned for the other side of the coin.

I am reminded here of Margaret Fuller, who said, "I accept the universe."

Wow!

Ah well, so if scientist say things for years then it must be true!
Well, History showed that one wrong.
It hasn't to do anything with my ego.
It is just that I found out we are lied to on so many fronts it really is unbelievable. the church religions, banks..science.
So, it is not about how long scientist have maintained the 'status quo'
It is about if it is true or not. That is the only valid question.
Your 'argument' is based on the authority fallacy and the popularity fallacy.

Seems to me YOU don't have a clue here. Science is not circular in its reasoning. How much scientific education do you have?

studied math/physics/psychology at university level Wink

You just are assuming a lot now. just start investigating and see for yourself.
Of course I wasn't aware of it either.

Nope. But it is not necessarily false.

History has shown that scientists can make mistakes.

What is your point?

You are saying you have solved one of the most complex problems ever...and that you can show the entirety of science to be mistaken.

And you dare to suppose that has nothing to do with your ego???

C'mon...get real.

Okay. And that is supposed to make your wild, blind guesses about what is actually going on correct?

My "argument" is that I do not know the true nature of the REALITY of existence.

It is not a fallacy of any kind. It is the truth.

Give it a try. You'll see that it doesn't hurt.

I don't care much about my ego, BUT it is interesting that YOU brought up?! Wink

I ONLY care for the truth.

And where have I written that I have solved the most complex problems ever??? where? show me!!!! I haven't!!
where did I write that????

Strange, I always say 'science' is like a religion, and you just prove that to me.

How dare you! Blasphemy! Ego!!! Our gods (=scientists) are right!
Imposter! Liar! Off with his head!!

Think again.

I only care if something is true or not.

Ok, but you are not able to tell me why. I think, really, that 'science'' is extremely absurd the way it is done nowaday and yes, I dare to say, that scientist really don't know what they are doing. Especialy the physicists are extremely dumb people. Can't think at all!

'scientisty' have found a lot 'absurd' , later a lot of it was true!

So....

I am talking about something to be true or not, not if it is absurd or not.
Because, the world is , if you look deep enough, is more absurd than you even can imagine. No kidding here.

Actually, at this moment you might call this world an asylum.

Yep, put things in perspective.. doesn't it?!

People in asylums think that queer behaviour is 'normal', the norm, and 'normal' behaviour is seen as strange very strange, Hence the absurdity you think you see.

Your ego is in control of you, Q.

Great. Then you should be able to acknowledge that your ego is out of control. I'm waiting.

You've said that science has it all wrong.

Science has been investigating the mysteries of the world for centuries...and you have asserted that they have it all wrong.

That means you have solved the most complex problems ever.

But of course, we both know that it really is just your ego flying off into space.

@Frank Apisa,
Apisa daren't do believing because he then legitimises the beliefs of others.

Although it's only a belief, a naive sort of faith, that he doesn't do believing.

What evidence has he got that he doesn't do believing?

@giujohn,
And we are all hoping that the belief in our God will have a happy ending.

Aren't we?

The "no belief" brigade couldn't organise a fart in a balloon and the belief in other gods hasn't ever worked out.
