Perhaps not everyone, but it threw my wife out of an affordable insurance policy into one costing over $500 more per month because she does not qualify for Medicare until July. One month to go and we get relief. But we know of others who will not escape so quickly.

NEOLOGIST WROTE: No. It is a major straw man perpetrated by those who fail to understand the creative days were not 24 hours long. In fact, if you ever cared to read it, Genesis 2:4 lumps the first six into one. Also, if you care to look, tell me where the Bible says the seventh day has ended.

James Ussher (sometimes spelled Usher, was Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland. He published a chronology that purported to establish the time and date of the creation as the night preceding Sunday, 23 October 4004 BC.
It has nothing to do with the 6 days of creation.

@giujohn,
So, Usher's main interest was propagating the official lie and maintaining ignorance of the flock.

Not any different than the overwheming majority of priests more concerned with power than the spiritual health of their charges.

@neologist,
Uh...I make no assumption as to motive. I take his calulation at face value that he truly believed it...it was also adopted by the church as official...again I make no assumptions as to their motives.

I just know that he was basing it on a flawed document.

The emperical evidence is that the universe is 13.7 billion years old and the earth is 4.5 billion. I'll go with that!

Ah, but time is stretchy and elastic, Einstein proved that, so it's impossible for anybody to slap precise dates on things..Smile

Thank you.

Well, I have not a religious bone in my body.
The reason I oppose is because there is NO SOLID PROOF that the world is that old. Because all of that is build on assumptions which are probably very wrong, and circular reasoning. lots of circulair reasoning.

Lot's of people automaticilly assume I am a creationist or bible hugher or whatever. I am not.

The only thing I do is being very critical to a lot of official 'science' that most swallowed 'hook, line and sinker', and now defend their position fiercely that the 'science' looks more to a religion to me.

How would you say this universe, earth, life, species, came about? What is your own story of creation, if it's neither the scientific account nor the biblical one?

At the moment, I really don't know. I am going , at the moment, towards the idea that the universe etc always existed, because there is, in fact, no time, it is an illusion, But as I said, still researching that.

Terming it "creation" unnecessarily necessitates a "creator." The term "creation" is gratuitous and self-serving.

It may not be a "creation" at all. Whatever IS (I have no idea of what IS)...may just always have been.

How do you KNOW time is an illusion? Don't you actually mean that time MAY BE an illusion?

As I said, I am still researching this, but it becomes clearer and clearer to me that time is an illusion, a fabric of the human mind.
But as I said, I might be wrong, I might be right. I'll see.
