@Lustig Andrei,
They still make the matches. You just have to buy them in bulk from Amazon.

The problem with Amazon being so prevalent is that there isn't a tough guy that can light one of those matches on his 2 day stubble.

@dlowan,
Okay, people, please explain the "meta meaning" of dlowan's post. I'm dense at these things.

@dlowan,
Where does one wear a fascinator?
Who is to be fascinated by the fascinator?
Why are sheep fascinating?

Wrong-o, Para. Look at the printing on the box. "Strike on box matches." Not "strike anywhere." The boxes look identical but the match-heads don't have that double-sulfur configuration which enables them to be struch on the seat on one's pants if one is wearing very stiff denim jeans.

I'm a-gonna hafta come back to the East Coast just to buy some lucifers, I reckon. Tell ya, though, they were obsolete in both Boston and the great state of New Hampshire (which, btw, has one of the largest match manufacturers, D.D. Bean & Co., right there in the town of Jaffery) when I left that neck o' the woods. Might be on their way out in NYC also by now, Joe. I'd check that store right quick, was I you. Canajuns, of course, care nothing about fire hazards and such so don't follow US laws too closely. Mr. Green

@Lustig Andrei,
given the right conditions, you can find anything in NYC.

You want a gallon of DDT? What else?
Cuban Cigars? Natch.
You want High Volatility Paint (banned by the EPA 10 years ago)? ... Sure.

You want some endangered species (properly grilled)?

A freshly killed and stuffed Bald Eagle?

Hmmm. You got some contacts, Joe? I know a person from Liberia, now living in in Dedham, Mass., who'd likely be glad to sell you some old and very genuine elephant tusk ivory.

@Joe Nation,
That meminds me of the joke about the guy who was hauled into Federal court for killing and eating a California condor. He proved to the judge's satisfaction that it had been a matter of his survival, life and death. As he stood up to leave, the judge called him to the bench and asked how it tasted.

Well, it was a little tough, but the flavor was kinda in between a bald eagle and a snowy owl.

Fascinators are worn on the head.

I find them repulsive and ridiculous, but that's just I.

Sheep have personalities and very interesting if you get to know them. Poddy sheep are those in whom we humans can most readily see these personalities.

@dlowan,
I don't think (actually I haven't really thought about it until now) I have ever met a mammal without a personality.
Let's see: Cows, horses, monkeys, (dogs and cats, of course) goats, sheep, pigs (piglets are so cute I cry every time I have a BLT) and those little weasel things~~ ugh~~they had personalities, bad personalities.

Some birds I have known are smarter than some of the people I have worked with and for.

My grandmother had a weasel on her farm that she claimed was the devil.
