The Summer Olympics start in London in 60 days. I am so excited. I can toss hammers and play badminton. I can swim and run and shoot and wrestle...all without leaving my couch! How cool is that? And I can win medals - gold, silver and bronze.
And so can you by playing our relatively simple game!
Watch this space in the next few days. We'll be back - just as we were in 2008 and 2010 - with the rules. We need to finish making them up first.
You will be given a list of countries, divided into Group A through Group D. You will be asked to choose two (2) from Group A, three (3) from Group B, five (5) from Group C and five (5) from Group D before the start of the games. Then you can rest.
If one of your countries wins a gold medal, you win five (5) points. You get three (3) points for a silver and one (1) for a bronze.
Pretty painless, huh?
We had some 50 players in the past. Some of the backroom logistics of keeping track of the scores is a bit tedious, but doable.
STEP #1:
Choose two (2) teams from Group A -
> Australia
> China - Men's team
> China - Women's team
> German
> Russia
> United Kingdom
> United States - Men's team
> United States - Women's team
China and the U.S. - large teams - have been divided in two.
STEP #2:
Choose three (3) teams from Group B -
> Belarus
> Canada
> Cuba
> France
> Hungary
> Italy
> Japan
> Netherlands
> South Korea
> Spain
> Ukraine
STEP #3:
Choose five (5) teams from Group C -
> Argentina
> Brazil
> Czech Republic
> Denmark
> Georgia
> Jamaica
> Kenya
> New Zealand
> North Korea
> Norway
> Poland
> Romania
> Slovakia
> Sweden
> Thailand
> Turkey
Thanks, realjohnboy! I'll post my pics in a few weeks after some research.
Research? I'm clearly out of my league.

GROUP D:
You must choose five (5) countries not listed in groups A, B or C to round out your picks. I googled "2008 summer olympics medal count" and found that there were over 50 countries who won at least one medal.
I am not going to attempt to list them. Wikepedia has a tally of medals by every country.

Fine. But I left Kazakhstan out of Group C.
I kid you not.
They did well in 2008.
Research? I wouldn't know where to begin.
Johnboy's picks:
Group A: Russia and U.S. Men
Gr0up B: Finland, Japan and South Korea
Group C: Czech Republic, Jamaica, Kenya, Norway and Poland
Group D: Switzerland, Azerbajan, Uzbekizstan, Indonesia and Greece
(Azerbajan has a really good 50 and 100 meter air pistol team)
