Is life getting better or worse? We take a look at how people’s perceptions of change in their area match up with the way things really are.
Around the region and across the country, the archetypal all-white neighborhood is vanishing with remarkable speed. In many places, the phenomenon is not being driven by African Americans moving to the suburbs. Instead, it is primarily the result of the nation’s soaring number of Hispanics and Asians, many of whom are immigrants.
The result has been the emergence of neighborhoods, from San Diego to Denver to Miami, that are more diverse than at any time in American history.
As the nation barrels toward the day, just three decades from now, when non-Hispanic whites are expected to be a minority, these global neighborhoods have already begun remaking the American social fabric in significant ways. Their creation and impact have been especially pronounced in the Washington area, where minorities are now the majority.
A Washington Post analysis of 2010 Census data shows a precipitous decline in the number of the region’s census tracts, areas of roughly 2,000 households, where more than 85 percent of the residents are of the same race or ethnicity — what many demographers would consider a segregated neighborhood.
In the District, just one in three neighborhoods is highly segregated, the Post analysis found. A decade ago, more than half were.
In the Maryland suburbs, one in five neighborhoods is dominated by one race or ethnicity, down from almost a third in 2000.
The biggest drop has been in Northern Virginia, where only one in 20 neighborhoods is a racial or ethnic enclave. No suburb is more diverse than Fairfax County, where just 2 percent of neighborhoods are segregated.
Almost everywhere, McGovern Drive is becoming the norm.
The Coles have witnessed the changes from their picture window. The three-generation Nguyen family from Vietnam lives next door to them. On the other side are the Crawfords, an African American couple who moved to Hillandale after he retired from Howard University and she stopped teaching in District schools. A house cleaner from Mexico, Raquel Jackson, who brings the Coles dinner on holidays, is across the street.
From one end of McGovern Drive to the other, and on adjacent streets, a boundless diversity continues: immigrants, or their offspring, from Jamaica and Haiti, Egypt and Israel; African Americans who have lived there for 20 years; and whites who bought their homes when Lyndon Johnson was president.

I have been to Brookings on numerous occasions and it isn't a small college in Western South Dakota which is why I asked when you had posted anything about a small college in Western South Dakota.
Your geography mistake is the same mistake made on the White Power sites which leads me to believe that is where you got the story.

Authorities said Harris lived in Missouri City, Texas and worked as a noncommissioned employee for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Rosharon. He was also employed by a home health care agency in Houston.
The first known suspected attack was in Yoakum in January 2009. As many as 12 rapes, attempted rapes or burglaries in Yoakum and Luling and in rural Leon, Bell, McLennan and Falls counties through November 2009 led to the formation of an informal task force.

Why would anyone do this to her?, she continually asked police.
Detectives didn't have an answer for that, but they at least could tell her they had arrested the suspect.
Police obtained a warrant Wednesday in connection with the rape at her home in the 4300 block of 63rd Street after DNA results confirmed a link.

Interesting statement by police identifying the type of rape victims of this rapist:

It is not uncommon for a rapist to target a certain appearance in his victims. And on occasion, like this one, the cops even release that information.
But rare is the occasion when the cops or the Corrupt Liberal Media mention that a black rapist is targeting white women. In fact, I have never seen it in hundreds and hundreds of crime stories that I have read.

A Des Moines man, who allegedly kicked in the door to a north side home and then raped the woman living there, has been arrested on charges of first-degree burglary and third-degree sexual abuse.

The Iowa Supreme Court has rejected a Cedar Rapids man’s appeal of his conviction in the 2007 rape of a Kirkwood Community College student.
Bruce M. Braggs, 35, is serving a 50-year sentence for second-degree sexual abuse and first-degree burglary in the June 30, 2007 incident in which he broke into the apartment of the victim, then 19. Braggs placed a blanket over the woman’s face and raped her.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The pastor of a Fort Dodge rape victim said the woman might lose both of her arms.
Fort Dodge police said 34-year-old Sessions Harper raped and burned the victim early Sunday morning. He is still at large.
His victim was taken to the burn unit at the University of Iowa hospitals. The woman's pastor said the woman is in critical but stable condition.

That's the Adam Harvell she knew, not the man tied to the rape of three women through DNA evidence. Police also say Harvell is behind six home invasions since December. Over time Becky's daughter was unable to ignore the clues.
"Well there was several things, she said he had been out all night and didn't have an explanation when he'd come home the next day. He had bruises on his body and he didn't have much of an explanation for that. One time he said he slipped on the ice," Maring said.

The student and full-time employee described how she lived a "very independent" life before the attack in a home she worked hard for.
After the crime, the victim said, she moved out of her home and threw away everything Parker had touched.
"This is the most horrible thing that could've happened to me," she said as she clutched a white piece of paper in her shaking hands. "... To this day I'm afraid of the dark. I'm afraid to be alone."
Police say Parker followed the victim to a Fourth Street bar the night of Feb. 12 and then broke into her home and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint during the early morning hours of Feb. 13.

According to a criminal complaint, Doughty on Wednesday went up to a 46-year-old woman at the Ohio Tavern, 224 Ohio St., and asked her to play pool. During the game, he asked if she wanted to party, and she no. After the game, she left the bar, but Doughty followed her into a back parking lot, pushed her to the ground and raped her.

MADISON, Wis. -- A 31-year-old Madison man was found guilty of abducting and raping two University of Wisconsin-Madison students on separate occasions last year.
Antonio Pope pleaded no contest Friday to two counts of kidnapping and two counts of first-degree sexual assault in the incidents.
Authorities said each of the victims told police that Pope held a knife to her throat, forced her into a car, then bound and blindfolded her.
