That's pretty obvious on the evolution threads.

It is heresy to say it though, and damn the evidence. Delusions are difficult to break, once people are willing to bend reality to suit their needs they are largely a lost cause....mass mental illness some have called it.

EDIT: we see this in how science has suffered lately, as when scientific truth comes up against delusion in the current environment it is not a forgone conclusion that science will win....the defense of the delusion means that science must be either corrupted or discredited, and we have seen both tacks used.

@hawkeye10,
Now that DSK is back in France I wonder if it was the most tiresome and trying interrupted journey of a serious VIP in modern history.

@izzythepush,
Believer in lynch mobs are you izzy?

DSK is as innocent legally as I presume you are. Morally and ethically he doesn't appear to be particulary unusual in today's amoral climate. Having it off with ladies lower in the social and economic hierarchy is extremely common in my experience. Whenever the appropriate conditions are provided it usually happens.

His persecutors have to answer for the plight of genuine rape victims whose search for justice is now more difficult.

We see a big difference in how the Brits/Americans and the French report this.....we talk about how there was no welcome and go on at length with claims that DSK is a scumbag, the French talk about how they are laying low plotting how he is going to move forwards as an European economic guru. Their plan to come back quietly did not work however, as the tv stations were constantly going on about what DSK was up to, would he make a statement or would he not, what is DSK going to do next they want to know. The French dont seem to know about pronouncements from the puritans that DSK is washed up......as I write this the CAC40 is down 3.5% on the day, and gold is back up to with in $13 of the all time high....the French have much more serious things on their minds than bitching that DSK likes women, they want a solution to the pending economic meltdown, and they dont give a damn if the men with solutions are randy.... any sensible person would comment them for their good sense.

Well that's one hell of a huge leap in logic. We don't have lynch mobs in Southampton. If you want lynch mobs tried Portsmouth.

That is to distract attention from the role the tv stations have played in the economic slide with their uxorious pandering to the female sensibility which has economic disaster written all over it.

Not everyone is as thrilled with DSK's economic policies as you seem to be...

Or as willing to put aside his "randy" behavior and return him to political prominance...

@firefly,
And the way of dealing with someone that is causing you concern and you disagree with is to drum up false rape charges as in the case of Julian Assange and DSK it would seems or at least in the case of the French charges.

The maid was more likely to had been driven by the $$$$$$$$$

Hell it can be anything dealing with sex as in the GOP trying to get Clinton removed from office for lying about a consensus BJ.

@BillRM,
I didn't think he lied Bill. He said he didn't have sex with ML. And he didn't. BJs are not sex. They are a form of medical treatment. Or a polite favour.

In The Lives of Gallant Ladies the princesses start the day with a bout of such things with the fresh morning guardsmen. It's toning I gather.

Mr C apologised because he didn't fancy explaining it. He might have embarrassed some law officers.

'Return of the living dead'

A former president and a former presidential hopeful dominate: Jacques Chirac and Dominique Strauss-Kahn. They are both mired in scandal. Chirac, at 78, will not be in court today on medical grounds for the start of his trial for alleged corruption. And Strauss-Kahn is back home in what a political rival calls the return of the "living dead". That's the focus for the French press review, Monday 5th September 2011.

By Nicholas RUSHWORTH

Le Figaro leads on a photo of Jacques Chirac looking frail as he rests his hand on a security guard. It headlines : “La maladie de Jacques Chirac dénature son procès”. That has two meanings: one, his illness changes the nature of his trial and, two, it is nothing without him.

Chirac’s trial on allegations of corruption opens today with his lawyers arguing he is too unwell to attend. Plaintiffs say that’s a "manoeuvre": a trick, a manipulation.

Le Figaro says this is a painful time for Chirac’s wife, Bernadette, and his children. They have had to choose between letting him appear in court knowing his health is not up to it, and making the extent of his health difficulties public.

The paper says opposition Socialist politicians Ségolène Royal and François Hollande “understand his absence but believe the trial is legitimate”. An opposition Europe Ecology politician, meanwhile, tells Le Figaro: “The richer and more powerful you are, the more you can escape justice”

The free paper “20 minutes” is asking: “Is this a phoney trial?” That’s a reference to the case itself which concerns phoney jobs Chirac is alleged to have created during his time as Mayor of Paris in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Another French politician with the “scandal” label, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, also features heavily. Le Parisien-Aujourd’hui-en-France headlines: “Strauss-Kahn’s strategy”. It says his return to Paris from New York on Sunday was carefully orchestrated and is part of scrupulous efforts by his team to resurrect his political career.

It quotes a member of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s team saying Strauss-Kahn’s reappearance in Paris is the return of the “living dead”, affirming that while Strauss-Kahn is dead politically, in personal terms, he could drag the Socialist Party down.

A cartoon in Le Parisien-Aujourd’hui-en-France shows Strauss-Kahn asking: “If I plead memory loss like Chirac could I possibly run as presidential candidate?”

One of France’s regional papers, Le Progrés, in Lyon, looks at both men saying that they belong to France’s past. It is urging a closer look at the problems France has today. And another paper, Le Courrier Picard in northern France, remarks: “between Jacques Chirac losing his memory and Dominique Strauss-Kahn who realises his memory will be called upon, France has two unrivalled talents in dealing with the justice system”.

Yes it is a great means getting something on your enemies of a sexual nature at least in the US and UK.

I once hear Ralph Nader give a speech at my university where he stated that he needed to live like a monk as private detectives pay for by GM was following him around 24/7 trying to find something to discredit him with.

@firefly,
You keep reinforcing my assertion that the French are needling DSK with high school level snickers, they are not of the opinion that he is a dangerous predator....There are some socialists who are pissed that he in their opinion sabotaged his run at the Presidency, and more who are pissed that he likes the good life too much for their blood, but this idea that DSK is a danger to society is mostly the thinking of the American and British puritans......

With this effort you show that even some Americans have trouble toeing the American law and order advocates line of DSK=predator.

NOTE: the media feeding frenzy upon their return indicates that the French have no interest in shunning DSK, and pretty much sinks the assertion that the French are ashamed of him. Also, that the leading socialists immediately started to distance themselves from him only after he was free of the American abuse and was on his way home indicates both the low opinion of American "justice" and that they feel that DSK is still a political force in France, that he can still rally the people .....thus the need to preemptively dismiss him, thus trying to get him off of the stage before he can cause trouble for their favorite canditate.

The leading Socialists tend to see him as an embarrassment and a distraction--which is why they would rather not see him get involved in the upcoming Presidential elections. If 53% of the French people don't want to see him involved in politics--and the percentage is probably higher among women--he is not likely to "rally the people", particularly with Banon's criminal complaint and Diallo's civil suit still pending, which are still reminding people of unsavory aspects of his character.
Quote:
Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s legal troubles are not over. He faces a civil trial in the United States brought by the hotel maid, and prosecutors here are investigating a complaint of attempted rape made against him in July by a novelist, Tristane Banon, for an encounter that took place in 2003. Mr. Strauss-Kahn denies it. Prosecutors will decide whether to prosecute the case, drop it or open a further judicial inquiry, and it is likely he will be called to testify.

The unease around Mr. Strauss-Kahn will not go away soon. Whatever his accomplishments, his name is now associated with a hotel maid and many tales of his promiscuity that have emerged since then. A former Socialist prime minister, Michel Rocard, caused a ruckus last week when he said that Mr. Strauss-Kahn “obviously has a mental illness, trouble controlling his impulses.” Mr. Rocard, 81, added: “He’s out of the game. It’s a shame, he had real talent.”

But others think that if the Socialists win the presidency, Mr. Strauss-Kahn might be brought into government again as a minister. And as the election campaign unfolds, he is likely to be an influential critic of Mr. Sarkozy’s policies while helping the Socialists build credibility on economic issues.

Still, feelings remain quite raw. After Mr. Strauss-Kahn and Ms. Sinclair arrived home, Reuters reported, a resident of their building could be heard shouting in the interior courtyard: “You are a disgusting creature. Go and get cured somewhere else.”

Multiple French outlets are reporting that DSK will address the French people with in the next 15 days. There is as yet no reports on which tack he intends to take other than that to retire has been ruled out, that he has devoted his life to the French people and he intends to get past this latest bimbo eruption and continue on with his good works.

It worked for slick Willie for the most part, I see no reason why it will not work for DSK.

It seems to me that right now a hero is exactly what France needs.

If economic times were good there is little doubt that DSK would now find himself reconciled to a quiet life. Times are not good though, and there are those who will argue that France needs leaders who can make tough economic decisions, regardless of their personal behaviour. I am not saying that he is the only man for the job, in fact I doubt that is true. There is a perception, though, that he is, and that might just be enough for the men who line up every morning in front of temporary employment offices; you could hardly blame them if they believe that forgiving this leader for his offenses is a small price to pay to have food on their tables.

“Bonne chance!” shouted one well-wisher when the former IMF leader arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport Sunday morning. Well, good luck indeed for Dominique Strauss-Kahn that economy is failing to recover; it makes it difficult for France to dispense with this powerful man.

Dozens of people, feminists for the most loudly expressed Sunday under the windows of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Place des Vosges in Paris, demanding that he not to return policy.

"We ask that Dominique Strauss-Kahn is not visible for the next election, since it is not white, since there will be a trial and other women are gradually complaint against him," said Nelly Martin, spokesman for the World March of Women, an organization of women's associations.

Despite the rain, the protesters listened for over an hour several public speaking organizations participating in the rally, punctuated by rolling a dozen drums.

Expressing outraged by the repercussions in the media that marked the return to France of former Director of the IMF a week ago, Nelly Martin said that feminists take advantage of the media meant "to speak for all women who are victims of violence in France and around the world and have never justice.

Translation by Google

Dozens of people?? That is all the New York Feminists could get to turn out to their protests as well, I am sure that DSK is shaking in his shoes...

There is zero chance that DSK is either shamed into retirement or forced into retirement, he does not think he was wrong and France needs him.

Note: DSK has been question about Banon and the French legal establishment is to return a decision on the 24th of either dropping or going forwards with the case. One result that is possible that they decide that sexual harassment likely took place but that the statues of limitation long ago ran out on a complaint.
