We had a little bit of wind here in Washington yesterday....

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/2001847454.jpg

Quote:
Strong winds nearly threw a tractor-trailer off the Deception Pass Bridge between Oak Harbor and Anacortes in the morning, forcing the bridge's closure for six hours, according to the Washington State Patrol.

There were no life-threatening injuries in the two-vehicle accident.

Charlo Brodt, 35, was on his way to work about 7 a.m., going north on Highway 20 to Clear Lake in his 1981 Toyota pickup when he saw the tractor-trailer on two wheels, coming straight at him, he said in a telephone interview yesterday.

Winds at the time were gusting up to 55 mph, according to the State Patrol.

Brodt hit his brakes but couldn't stop in time. The tractor-trailer hit his truck, his hood sliding under it. The tractor-trailer, meanwhile, was perched on the guardrail, hanging over the water.

Scary!

That's some strong rail.

Ahhh, 68 degrees, what bliss. We just got an email saying something about that's nice about the new high-efficiency furnace, you'll save some money, and E.G. replied "We could save a lot if we kept it at 40. That wasn't so bad." Pffft.

E.G. liked it at 40??

That doesn't sound like he's going to approve of a cozy 73 setting.

He was kidding.

I responded "Speak for yourself, Ice Boy."

73 is a bit high for us, though. 70 is the highest we go, and that's pretty high.

Well, that's good. You had me worried.

73 is nice for a toasty morning get-up... but then I like it to drop down, too. We had a wood stove in another house... oooh, that is a nice kind of heat. Radiant, like sunshine.

We had 36 degrees below zero last night, and 30 below the two nights before that. So I envy Pueo's nice climate. Do you have a winter of sorts at all or is it like summer all the year around, Pueo

it's a little cooler now than during the summer although overall, the temperature is fairly steady year round.

So, I was gonna post about how nice and warm it was today.
I could hear the snow melting when I was out with the dogs.
Warm. I tell you, it's warm.

and no more snow til Tuesday. Of course, then it will snow from Tuesday through Sunday.

Yup. It's winter.

Melting? You're kidding. Nothing's melting here unless the dogs pee on it, and then it freezes right back up.

So, it didn't melt much <shrug>
Just enough, that when the temps dropped again - we got a nice frozen crust on the 3 - 4 foot piles of snow. <nods>
At least we're not just south of Lake Ontario. Pulaski County apparently got 5 feet of snow in the last 24 hours or so. Lake effect snow. Avoid it.

I forget you're on the other side of the Great Lakes, so your air's got more moisture. We don't get melt -- the stuff just sublimes into the cold, dry air.

We're lookin' forward to a break in the sub-zero stuff, but a little snow is in the cards ... maybe another foot or so. Its been snowing here since late Friday night. I managed to get my tractor stuck ... dropped a wheel off the edge of the driveway, and settled the sucker on its belly with one wheel in the air. I'll drag it out tomorrow with the big truck, no problem, but boy, do I feel dumb.

Thanks, pd ... yanked it out no problem this morning. Just wasn't in the mood to do it yesterday. I had to plow snow for the township today, so when I said "big truck, I meant "BIG TRUCK" ... 53,000# GVW 10 Wheeler three-axle-drive Oskosh dumpbody with an 11' snow blade and around 10 tons of sand in the box. Just hooked a chain to the tractor and backed up. I don't think the Oshkosh even knew the tractor was there.

Late Edit: I just noticed I reversed the digits of the truck's GVW. I fixed it ... shoulda been 53, not 35. Damn, I should proofread Embarrassed
Oh, well, I'm reasonably cofident nobody'll ever notice; the threads already a couple pages beyond this, thank goodness.
