Most insurance companies stopped paying for a doctor of your choosing long ago.

There was a good story on the evening news about people going to hospital that said they were in network but when they were operated on, they found the doctor was not in the network. Collection companies are now moving to garnishee their wages and take their houses. If we had single payer this nonsense would stop. The subject of the story had health insurance but ended up owing the doctor over $7,000, 25% of her wages were garnisheed and lien put on her house.

That is what we are seeing is market place competition and this is where we are at. If you are in a car accident and severely injured you need to call the ambulance company and see if they accept your insurance. Then you need to call the hospital they are taking you to and find out if they accept your insurance. After that you need to contact the doctor or doctors and find out if they accept your insurance. If not, you will be forced to pay for it out of your pocket. You had insurance but still lost your home.

There are certain things that are not subject to traditional market forces and a monopoly is one of them. You don’t have a choice to pick an electric company there is only one choose from.

Given a choice the electric company would run the rates up several times. The Public Service Commission grants the electric company a monopoly and in return for granting the electric company a monopoly the Public Service Commission only allows the electric company to make a certain percentage of profit.

Drug companies have a monopoly on many of their drug and some have renewed their patents 29 times.

We know what happened in California when Enron got the government to deregulate electricity, prices instantly shy rocketed and black out became common.

Drug companies’ monopoly allows them to charge several times the cost of a drug in some cases 100s of times what it costs to manufacture. If you have a monopoly the public needs protection against greedy businessmen.

Exactly, the states have control over both fire and automobile insurance and did have control of health insurance for a 100-years.

You can’t have both sides of the argument. You want to do away with state control of health insurance and let the Fed control it.

The public option would be so cheap that the private insurance companies would either match it or go out of business.

The employer can shift any and all of the cost of health insurance to you at any time he pleases unless you belong to union with a contract.

For years the state would give raise to teachers but raise their health insurance more than raise.
