It's time to reduce military spending. Is it worth our while, to let our babies and elderly starve and go homeless, to support a military now fighting 3 different wars?

@Miller,
We can make more meaningful reductions in spending. Leave our military alone.

One war that we should end is the idiotic war on drugs, this will save BILLIONS of tax payer dollars.

SO STIPULATED.

In addition to its being hopelessly futile,
it is also anti-libertarian, and the result of USURPATION of power.
It is a betrayal of the American Revolution.

The Founders woud be aghast to find that government
claims to have jurisdiction to control what citizens eat, drink or otherwise ingest.
That is a PRIVATE matter.

@Miller,
That's how stupid our government is! They have no concept of rational thinking or ability to understand that people in our country are hurting while we spend billions to kill innocent people in other countries with our war machine.

What galls me most is the simple fact that we are cutting our educational system, our infrastructure, and our peoples good health to ship our men and women to war where we don't belong.

First of all, stupidity is an attribute of people... If the people had democracy, I think the government would soon find there was not nearly enough support given the economy and the general insecurity for making these wars... The people are the brains in a democracy, but if there are enough people behind an idea likely to affect us all, then they could educate us... They will not educate us now because once we have elected them our part in the process is done... They have to say nothing, nor ask our leave to do anything...

We do not get democracy, but neither does the government avail itself of the common sense of the people... And; I may add that many on the right only run their mouths in the fashion they do because they do not have to consider the consequences of their actions as they would if they were in charge... They can recommend a course of action that might leave children starving in the street, but because they do not have to consider it, or witness it, they then do not have to worry about the expression of nonsense... They are saved from the proof of stupidity by their powerlessness, which they justify... But strange as it may seem, I would not deny myself power to hold them powerless because that only means some third party will have both our powers... I would have the right be powerful so I could then encourage them to think well and hard about what they advocate...

That's right; our political system is the people involved in it. My observations tell me most Americans are stupid, so we get stupid results in our politics.

45% of conservatives still believe Obama was not born in the US.

Those are facts about the American people.

45% of the people could not possibly lead the rest into disaster if we had democracy... All that majority rule stuff means we can be led to ruin by a slight majority, and can be ruined by halves, and since no matter how ruined a people might be, a half can always be managed, so there is no protection...

@Fido,
Ha! "If we had a democracy." We "are" in fact a democratic republic, but the divided politics have created a monster, because the American people are inherently stupid.

Our citizens get caught up in stupid lies like "Obama was born in Kenya."

The conservatives push this idea to the hilt, so Obama shows his Hawaii birth certificate. Now, the conservatives say, he's distracting from the important issues of our country.

Is that stupid? Yea.

This is by design and it's used to steer attention away from what liberals are doing behind the smoke screen.

There were a lot of reactionary societies bent on the denial of the most basic rights to their citizens that were democratic at the top... The parties have first limited representatives to manage them, and then it has divided districts to deny whole groups their representation; and we are never given a vote on any of the laws enacted against us, or on any of the issues we are faced with... We are not a democracy... WE are the bastardation of democracy; democracy in name only...

We could not both be stupid and a democracy.. It is the want of real power in our lives that allows those with the power to keep us uneducated, forced to accept them on faith, and forced to accept faith without evidence... Our ignorance was always their excuse to deny us democracy, and our want of democracy allowed them to keep us uneducated and misinformed... It was the world's first catch 22...

They are all doing something behind the smoke screen... Only the reactionaries are doing it with boys, and the liberals are rubbing one out...

The correct name for that is a compassionate conservative...Just more smoke screen, really... Things were never better in the past, but people labor under the illusion that they were... They would not take a cold bath, or use an outhouse, but the past is better if the best of the future could some how be transported back to the age of kings and they were kings...

Reactionaries are absolutley as stupid as they are dangerous because they would kill for their illusions and ideals... Only dead people live in the past, and for those who want to turn back the clock to when this country still had its best days before it, when the world lay unconquered before capitalism, and the forest still stood, and the minerals were still in the ground, and people still believed America meant freedom; then let them go there, and without all our goods upon which we must survive... Only dead people live in the past, so let the rich and all their reactionary friends just drop dead, or get on with making our society work... Going back is not an option, and it never was, and it never will be... We can only go forward together, and if that in not what the reactionaries want, they can stay in the past alone, and unmorned...

Only dead people live in the past; but we have millions who want to join them.. We modeled our government on the last days of the Roman republic because we admired them without understanding them or what played into the destruction of their democracy and eventually into their destruction... The point is, that when people have some good as people once had in America, they always wish to preserve that good through their forms... What they do not understand is the tendency of forms such as governments to be turned against the people and toward the benefit of the few... Forms are meant to resist change in order to preserve good, but for that reason must be swept away wholesale because they cannot be easily reformed... Few of the changes made to our government were not sold to the people... We vote every day for parties feeling we have no choice, but we never got a vote on whether to allow parties in the first placem, and they are not constitutional , but extra constitutional... Same with limits on numbers of reppresentatives in the house, as this one done by the parties for their benefit and not ours... We have no choice, and because democracy was limited in the constitution our hands which bagan tied have only become worse tied until we must bust a whole bale of wire and yarn to be free... And once free we will find we need a form, and as soon as we have a form there will be people turning that form to their personal benefit and away from the common good... So; yes, those who want to live in the past who cannot can drop dead and there be less of an impediment to positive change for humanity... Our last revolution carried too many old forms into the present and they began at once to pervert it... That should be done away with...

True enough as far as it goes, but to think it is not in flux, and has not always been in flux is wrong in fact... The parties grew up apart from government, and the parties fixed limits on the number of representatives without good cause save their own ease and corruption... What the parties have done the supreme court has ratified, and the supreme court has added to the ability of business and money to influence government... We have at time the quality of a partocracy, and theocracy, a plutocracy and a madhouse... To define such a system as a single thing is daft... The nearest we can come is the most general of definitions... We have a form of relationship... And our form is not serving our needs, or working in any sense of the word: Well... If we had to live in a form of dwelling as poor as our form of government we would move into a tent... Not out of desire, but as a stepping stone to something much better...It is time for us to move...

@Fido,
if a straightforward democracy (everyone votes on two sides of a matter) were a world thing, then it would definitely give rise to conflict. however, as a smaller, more individualistic government, like, for a small town, it would probably work out. what i would propose as an alternative would be a blend between the two. think of an upside tree diagram. lots of little groups vote on a matter,and what ever side is passed moves up to a representative to vote on that side of it, and what ever that decides the representative of that group votes in favor of, and so on. sorry if this is a bit unclear. just ask what you dont understand, and il try to clarify.
