Conservative sites across the web are a-flutter today about Romney's statement this morning: "I'm not concerned about the very poor."

Not that they disagree with him one bit; but, everyone seems to agree that the guy has a tin ear and doesn't even realize that he says things that will later be used against him in attack ads.

And Gingrich's "Spanish is the language of the ghetto." comment. I almost hope that Gingrich DOES get the GOP nod, simply because it'll mean the Obama team won't need to spend nearly as much money destroying him.

Question, for H2O and the other conservatives participating who favor someone other than Romney as the Republican nominee:

If Romney wins the nomination, will you support him enthusiastically and unconditionally?

Questions for you liberal democrats:
Do you understand that there is a huge groundswell in America that wants Obama defeated this November?
Will you join this movement for change or stay with the Obama status quO?

Questions for H2 Oboy:

Do you understand that the so-called "huge groundswell" that wants Obama defeated is limited to the 10 or 15 percent of the country that get their news mainly from Fox and the ilk, like Neil Boortz?

Do you understand that the other 90% of the country thinks people like that are loons?

Do you understand that far from "swelling" their ranks, the troglodytes are declining? Romney has dropped markedly lately against Obama due to some really dumb comments and his plutocratic connections, and Gingrich is out by double digits? The country wants Obama, and he'll get four more years.

You really should get out a bit more from that gated trailer park you call home.

@MontereyJack,
I don't know that the country wants Mr. Obama so much as they definitely don't want anyone the Republicans are offering.

@sozobe,
Yah, of course!

What more, there have been some swirling rumors that Mitt wasn't exactly honest about his dog and the infamous trip - two of his sons are on record as saying the dog 'ran away' when they got to Canada, which directly contradicts other things that Mitt and his wife have said in the past.

The lesson I take from the polls is that the more the Republicans talk about what they want to do to the country, the less the country wants it done to us.

@H2O MAN,
DewDads response and the number of thumbs down further
confirms that liberal democrats are indeed scared shitless.

I am not a liberal Democrat, but I will answer your question from my Independent perspective.

I DO UNDERSTAND that there is an enormous groundswell in America that wants Obama defeated this November. I understand further that many of these people want Obama defeated in a LANDSLIDE. I understand it fully and completely. I think there is a good possibility of that happening.

Not in any way. I want Obama very much to win.

Now, I'd like to present my question again....RESPECTFULLY...and if you, or any of the other conservatives present would answer it, I would thank you very much. I am not trying to start an argument...and I am not in to all this petty give-and-take. I am just trying to get an answer to my question.

If Romney wins the nomination, will you support him enthusiastically and unconditionally?

it's more like a lukewarm "well ok" if you look at the Gallup results

http://www.gallup.com/poll/election.aspx

Monday's report

48/48 Obama/Romney with registered voters.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/152240/Romney-Ties-Obama-Swing-States-Gingrich-Trails.aspx

Quote:
Romney Ties Obama in Swing States; Gingrich Trails
Gingrich performs worst against Obama in swing states and nationally

Registered voters in 12 key swing states are almost evenly split between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney in their 2012 presidential election preferences, while giving a 14-percentage-point lead to Obama over Newt Gingrich. Swing-state voters also prefer Obama to Ron Paul and to Rick Santorum. Registered voters nationally express similar preferences, although Paul does slightly better at the national level than he does in the swing states.

the intensity scores results are more promising for Mr. Obama over the last couple of weeks, but still not good

http://www.gallup.com/poll/152102/Obama-Romney-Intensity-Scores-Similar.aspx

The implications analysis below this chart is interesting taken in conjunction with the comment quoted above.

all in, I'd prefer the Republicans to choose Romney as their candidate as it has a good chance of alienating more conservatives from the party. The Republicans can get their own run at the Nader effect.

@ehBeth,
Yo, Beth…

…not really sure why so many Democrats and/or liberals are so sure Obama will win re-election. I am an ardent supporter of the man, but I want to be realistic when assessing what is going on. At best, it is 50/50 for his re-election…and with any kind of down-tick in the economy, I think the odds go in favor of anyone-but-Obama. Given the perfect storm, so to speak, it could easily be a landslide for the Republicans. I think there is no chance at all of a landslide for Obama…no matter what.

I am saddened by the fact that Newt seems to be struggling…he was the best chance left for the odds to start out at better than 50/50 for re-election.

@H2O MAN,
Why are you dodging the question, H2O? My guess is you will support the nominee of the GOP...no matter who that person is. You want Obama defeated...and that is the only way to defeat him.

So why dodge the question?

It is not a trick question...and there is no "aha, I gotcha" involved.

Will you or won't you????

All the necessary factors are in place for him to do so, and the opponents he faces are weaker than some of the ones he possibly could have faced. The opponent's base knows this and is currently (and publicly) displaying a lot of angst over it.

On top of that, it's widely acknowledged that Obama and his team know how to run a good campaign, and they will have a commanding money lead in this race. It's not a slam-dunk by any means, but there's plenty of reason to be optimistic.
