@onevoice,
If I thought people enjoyed freedom equally in this country, I wouldn't have argued your point.

And, I'm going to tell you that about 15 years ago, I might have said the same thing you did. It just bothers me that a lot of people are still suffering serious injustice that impacts their ability to live a safe and decent life. To see you blithely make a blanket statement about freedom for all having been the founding principle in our "blueprint," and callously forgetting or negating all the people that were never a part of that and still aren't pissed me off.

So, I said what I wanted to say, and I'll ignore you for a few weeks because I don't want to be drawn into this discussion with you.

I hope you'll look into the facts around this particular issue.

@onevoice,
I'm sure they are. Drinking the poisoned Flint water, paying through the nose for medicine, eating food full of additives banned in 'less free countries' having no job security, and working every hour God sends just to pay the rent. They must be tickled pink.

Not sure why I am replying since I am now going to be ignored. Lol

So anyway....Be assured (whoever reads this... Since lash won't be) That I was in no way joyfully making a blanket statement about anything. Perhaps I have some faulty thinking on some things... Or faulty information... Or even just plain misunderstanding. I have never once claimed to be perfect and know or understand all things. Conversations like this challenge me. Challenge my thinking. Make me want to know more than I do, understand things I don't, and fix the things that need fixing.

It is a shame lash is more concerned about being mad and offended that she didn't like what I said, than helping me understand what it is she thinks I am not really understanding correctly. Either way, I CAN understand that her kind of behavior is a contributing factor the the disconnect in America that is causing some of the issues she is so offended about.

Well, I never said freedom is equal, but even though its not that certainly doesn't mean it's not freedom. I am fully aware there's a whole lot of rich people out there enjoying freedoms I will probably never even be able to... And would really really like to... Yet you don't hear me complaining about it. When I am talking about freedom I am talking about freedom of speech, The right to bear arms, the freedom to make our own choices...

Everyone in the USA has those rights and freedoms. EVERYONE. So don't give me that "oh poor us" statement and expect sympathy from me. It is equal in that aspect and that is what I was talking about.

@izzythepush,
Wow, I didn't realize the USA has always been like this! That is what you are implying, right? Corruption causes disintegration. What do you expect to happen? You take the peel off of an apple it begins to rot. You take morals out of government and that country will begin to rot as well.

@Lash,
Oh, if someone could pass this message along to lash I would appreciate it. Please let her know she is more than welcome to keep me on ignore permanently as I don't have the time, patience, or desire to play her highschool games. However, if she would ever like to have an adult conversation... I am more than willing, going nowhere, and have no intentions of "blocking her back". Thanks. Smile

@onevoice,
The problem is you bang on about freedom like it's something uniquely American. It's not. What you call freedom we see as wage slavery and mega freedom for the top 1%. There are lots of wonderful things about America but it's probably the worst place in the developed world to be poor.

Not really. I read some time ago that an American on welfare lives better than most on this planet.

@izzythepush,
No no. I didn't mean for it to come off like that. I'm sorry. I know we aren't. And I see exactly what you are saying. You gotta understand though... We're on the brink of losing some very important freedoms via a corrupt, greedy, government. There's crap buzzing all over the place... All the time... About all of it. Then add in a bunch of new groups jumping around and screaming about how THEY feel slighted. My goodness it disorienting at times. For real.

My honest to goodness point is that everyone is so damn worried about making sure their "cause" is heard and understood and that the world knows that THEY'RE being wronged, everyone is fighting with everyone, and no one's paying attention to the freedoms we ALL will lose if "we the people" don't stand up TOGETHER and oppose the ones who are attempting to take them away.

I gotta be honest here... I can think of no better way to disassemble a country than to turn it against itself. Pretty smart these folks, they are.

@izzythepush,
Considering you dont live in the U S you seem to have a screwed up idea of what its like to live in the U S. Do we have problems? Yes. Do you have problems in the U K? Yes. Until you cure your own problems I wouldent be knocking any one elses problems. Eventually we'll solve them.

@RABEL222,
You get very defensive very quickly. I thought you wanted the things that we have, like Universal Health Care and better food regulation. Yet when someone points out the difference between America and most other developed nations you go all Republican.

It's not like I'm stressing the benefits of the UK, we're too much like America for that, so much as the Nordic system. Their system is the way to go. If a Dane was on a UK forum talking about all the benefits a Danish citizen gets, that we're denied, I'd be rooting for them, not trying to start a bloody argument.

Either you want a more socially inclusive, more European style of living or you don't. That's what the democrats want, the Republicans want to go in the opposite direction. You're beginning to sound like a Republican.

@izzythepush,
Well for one let's talk about the LGBT community and their complete lack of respect for the rights of those who disagree with their lifestyle to bake them a cake for their wedding. And the goverent that is backing that up. I am in no way, shape, or form bashing anyone in that community, but it shows the exact stupid pettiness I was just talking about.

They're mad and hurt because Christians think they're wrong, and sadly they have been treated quite unjustly at times by them... But not all of them. So I certainly understand their angst about the Christian community. However, just because they now have the right to get married and still are not being accepted by the Christian community that does not give them the right to force themselves upon Christians to bake a cake for their wedding.

What's the point really? There are thousands of bakeries not owned by Christians. Why not go to one of them? If I go to a car lot to buy a car and get snubbed by the sales people because they don't think I look like I have enough money to buy a car, I will go to another car lot. (This happened to me back in the day.)

I'm not gonna call the media to let them know how unjustly I was just treated. I'm not going gather up my friends to stand outside their lot picketing so everyone who drives by knows what jerks these people are. They want us to "live and let live"? Well... Maybe they ought to practice what they preach. It's called being an adult. You grow up and move on. But some of them don't or won't because they see it as more effective for their "cause" to play the martyr. So... Whatever.

The right to bear arms is another one on the table right now. Do they really think taking them away will make them just disappear... Like POOF... All is good in America now... No one has guns to shoot each other! The black market will only grow, and sadly more of those who misuse them will have them than the people who won't. Give everyone (not children of course) a gun though...

And I'll bet $20 the crime rate would drop drastically in the whole USA. If I were a criminal I would sure think twice about pointing a gun at someone who I know is carrying a weapon. My goal would be to rob you... Not die trying. Unarm everyone though... Oh hell yeah... And thank you very much Mr. President, you just took ALL the guessing out of my game.

That's all for now. My brain hurts. Lol

@onevoice,
It's understandable that christians are against homosexuality. It's my personal opinion that christians shouldn't be attempting to enforce their religious beliefs on others.
I don't remember when or where, but I remember reading about christians who were making efforts to restrict homosexuals in what they do in the privacy of their own bedrooms.
Why so many people wish to control others who they don't even know or care about wants to restrict their personal freedoms, I don't understand. They want to go into their bedrooms. I can't figure that one out.

@onevoice,
That damn LGBT community. First they demand that they not be lynched for being gay. Then they demand that they not be beaten up for being gay. Then they demand they not be arrested for being gay. Then they demand that they not be fired from their job for being gay. Then they demand they be treated the same as everyone else when it comes to business transactions. How dare they go that far?

You show your pettiness onevoice when you claim discrimination is just fine. Why do you think we no longer allow blacks to be barred from white lunch counters? You want to argue that since blacks can't be refused service, gays should be. Christianity was used to keep blacks in slavery so using it to discriminate is hardly a legal defense. Religion is not a valid excuse to discriminate.
