@izzythepush,
Woot woot! Good for them! Smile America was not designed for that. Period. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. In order for it to work you would have to shave off the edges of the square to make it fit. Therefore losing some valuable characteristics of the square.

The unified kingdom of Denmark was 'designed' in the 8th century, the Kingdom of the Swedes was already mentioned in the Beowulf.
Do you think, the foundation of getting Socialism was already laid in those days? That could beso, since Friedrich Engels wrote in 1848, ""socialism was respectable on the continent, while communism was not."

@onevoice,
Because America is working brilliantly right now with the smooth passing of laws through Congress, appointment of judges and a health care system second to none.

We're all terribly jealous I can tell you.

@Walter Hinteler,
Think about this Walter. How are things built? First there must be a blue print... A planned out idea of what you want. We are tedious about our design too, aren't we? Lol No matter what the design, you have to follow the blue print if you want it to turn out as planned, right? So, you can't get halfway through building a house and suddenly decide to change the plan and expect it to still work out according to the blue print. It's going to cost you something... Maybe a whole lot of something to redefine your intentions.

Not only that, just because you made your blue print and designed it perfectly for you, that doesn't mean it will work or be pleasing for everyone else. America was designed for the freedom of all it's occupants. That IS our blue print. Any building done outside of that blue print will not work for us... Because it's not ours... Nor do we want it.

@onevoice,
Î suppose, you don't mean 'America' but the U.S.A. .

The U.S.A. were founded .... when? Before or after 'Socialism' became a popular political idea?

So you want to stay where you stood more than 200 years ago?
That's what I thought. But fortunately, I've met others in the USA, and I've noticed that it is quite a modern country with a lot of progressive ideas.

@Walter Hinteler,
I'm glad that our notion of rights comes from a 1946 Labour Government and not a bunch of 18th Century revolutionaries.

USA... America... Is it not the same place? Why waste time picking apart menial things when there are much bigger issues at hand? It is not when it was founded that's the issue. It's WHY. Whether socialism was in play or not, America was founded on freedom being the primary principle for all. NOT socailism.

Lol... The classic twist and dodge! Nice one!

Listen Walter, I implied nothing that you are implying. Nice try though. Fortunately I wasn't standing here 200 years ago. I think I'd be one grumpy old lady by now! Lol. See... I can do it too! Very Happy

No. America comprises two continents. The USA is one country in North America.

Well, since America has sucked ass on that principle, they may as well try Democratic Socialism.

Well golly lash. It sure seems like a lot of immigrants are enjoying those freedoms we suck so badly at. You might want to try explaining that to them Smile

@onevoice,
You said our overriding founding principle was freedom for all.

As that document was written, we were a slaving country.

So, what you said is incorrect.

@Lash,
"Freedom" had a different meaning during history. And at different places as well.

For instance, many or most of the original inhabitants in America (both South and North) lost a lot of their freedom.

@Lash,
Haha! Foiled again! Thank you for pointing out my oversight. So, in light of that, let me also point out that eventually those slaves DID get their freedom in the great US of A. It is sad that it started out that way though, Yet it seems to have worked to their advantage in the end, don't ya think?

Edit: Ha ha hamster! I got to do an edit!
