@realjohnboy,
Alas, I'm older than you, kid. Born late '41. Family roots in Boston and Santa Rosa. But when you were entering high school, I was all sublimatingly gaga from afar about the later Green Bay Packer, Paul Hornung. Now there was a versatile player.

I did drop out on football for years, even decade, at a time. Or maybe a few semi decades.

When I was a kid in East Boston, Thanksgiving Day was all about the high
school rivalries. Eastie-Southie was a bucket of blood. Eastie always had
a kid named Vito, Southie would have a kid name Mullins whose nickname
was "Moon". They played the game at a neutral site, White Stadium.
Which was in a black neighborhood.

I was an Irish kid from Eastie. I went with my uncle and cousins to the
Chelsea-Everett game.

Y'know, we should have a lil holiday turkey party for tomorrow on this topic. I mean, Thanksgiving and football! Smile

@jespah,
I suppose I'll represent the jalapeno popper sector. Of which I am personally ignorant of. Still, they sound delicious. Back later.

I hope you and yours are where you want to be this evening. Here in Virginia, with no bad weather, the state police is reporting backups on every interstate highway. Miles and miles of backups.
I am safely home. Going nowhere. We will be having ham tomorrow. No turkey. I am responsible for corn fritters and the baked apple dessert.
On NPR's All Things Considered this evening was a Thanksgiving story called "A Veal Surprise..." If you have 5 minutes, you might enjoy listening to it.

So... daughter M helped bake the pies tonight. We have pumpkin and pecan. The pecan prepping and baking went fine. Then we moved on to pumpkin. She read the ingredients off, measured everything out, mixed it all up, poured it into the shell, and asked me to put it into the oven so that it wouldn't spill out. Sure, no problem.

wait...

Doesn't pumpkin pie have eggs in it?

No, she said, I read off all of the ingredients.

10 minutes later after I'd pulled the pumpkin can out of the recycling bin...

er, M? This calls for two eggs.

We pulled it out of the oven, poured the filling back into the mixing bowl, let it cool a bit, stirred in a couple beaten eggs, and poured it back into the pie shell. Lots of giggles and snorts in the kitchen tonight. Oh, and I think she used the wrong size measuring spoon for the cinnamon and nutmeg. Doesn't matter. We had a good time.

@realjohnboy,
We're with you, rjb. Staying home and enjoying it before I have to go to Fort Worth next week. Don't know yet what I'm cooking, but considering ham steaks, garlic spuds, homemade bread, and an as yet undecided flavor of soup. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
