I don't recall Tommy Franks as claiming to be an Intellectual. Nor do I recall anyone on this forum claiming to be an intellectual. Just what is an "intellectual" perception? or do you just mean anyone that thinks?

BTW, you never told us...what are the "magnificent achievements of our troops?"
Also, tell us your understanding of the difference between imperialism and the actions of the Bush administration. Your earlier definition (transferring wealth from a conquered land to the occupier, etc...) was a description of the actions of the US in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But there is another logic. I don't believe Bush or his coterie of neocons are as dumb as their actions lead one to believe

Congrats again Steve

I meant the brainpower on average in American policy and decision forums is pretty impressive, which if you exclude the President, makes it damn well formidable. Very Happy

Achievements----causing the rats to return to the sewars i.e., Saddam and his scum followers ----- rebuilding and opening schools after the parents of the students looted even the toilets. Rebuilding and opening the canals that have already filled the marshes in the south so that the "Marsh Arabs" can return to their former lifestyle. Creating an atmosphere where commerce is again on the roll and the freedom of speech is proclaimed by over 100 newspapers. Just a few magnificent achievements for you to scoff at Hobit.

If my earlier description of imperialism is a description of our actions in Iraq I'm certain you can give me a list of assets transferred to our treasury from Iraq. I will be waiting Hobit with constant reminders for your answer.

You only quote a sourse that coincides with your view of any particular subject. I would be more inclined to give your quotes, anecdotes and witicisms some credence if they weren't so one sided.

So you prefer not to think about the highly successful insurgency campaign?

As opposed to maintaining order from the start and preventing looting?

Yes, the British did a great job.

Because the most important thing is money, right?

Which get shut down daily for criticizing the Bremer Viceregency. In addition, both al-Jazeera and Arab News have been kicked out of Iraq by Bremer. Doesn't sound like freee speech to me.

Well, you know us "liberal intellectuals," we actually demand achievement, not PR. Very Happy

Opening up of Iraqi land ownership to foreign investors, auctioning off Iraqi utilities to US companies, etc......

Percy, every example I listed has been covered by the mainstream media over the last six months. It is good to see you thinking (after a fashion), though. Wink

Another or your convenient lies Hobit. The current and former Iraqi leaders of the Iraqi governing council shut those papers down-----not Bremer. The reason-----inciting terrorism which is an abuse of freedom of speech.

Not acceptable ----- these actions were initated by Iraqi ministers in control of that particular function.

I want to see a list of assets transferred to the US treasury because that was in my definition of an Imperialistic conqueror.

What the article says is that US forces shut down a newspaper - not the Iraqis.
