These are not the poor underpriviledged kids being portrayed. They are the best educated, most highly motivated troops in world history. They know why they are there better than you do. They want to go back until the job is done. They get really irritated when someone suggests we should walk away.

Now stop whining and start honoring their sacrifice. You don't honor a sacrifice by allowing your spine to melt in front of an enemy. You honor their sacrifice by following through on your commitment and providing the means to achieve victory razther than declaring it and walking away only to fight the same enemy a few years later when he/she is much better armed and manned.

I entered the U.S. Army in the early '80s. It still suffered a bit from the Vietnam-draft debacle. We did have some troops who were nearly illiterate. But, in the Infantry, it didn't matter much. They still worked hard, followed orders, trained seriously, and there was no doubt in my mind they could fight. Over the course of the next ten years, however, the Army diligently and purposefully reformed itself. By the '90s, it had completely recovered from the Vietnam nightmare. Presently, it's the best ground-combat force in the world.

THE WAR HORSE.
Sir Robert Clayton, a British cavalry officer, says of some war horses which had been humanely turned out to perpetual pasture, that while the horses were grazing on one occasion, a violent thunderstorm arose; at once the animals fell into line and faced the blazing lightning under an impression that it was the flash of artillery and the fire of battle.

This isn't to say old war horses can't tell the difference.

Fighting Terrorist Islam is honorable. Our war is an honorable undertaking. We must fight the followers of OBL wherever we find them. Iraq is just one of many battlefields on which we must kill them, without mercy. Al Qaeda must die.

Fratricide happens all the time. It's just a matter of honesty in reporting it. Some organizations are more open about it than others. And what the heck do my political views have to do with my military service? You're a bit of a skunk, I must say.
