Apology accepted but unnecessary. "All's well that ends well."

Recently two incidents happened which are giving me the feeling that I am finally being accepted by the people who work for me

Incident 1 - As I had mentioned, I had been given responsibility for Paris as well. But since I was not given any extra resources, and my team was overloaded with London anyways, I was struggling a bit in trying to understand what Paris was all about myself. One evening last week, one of my reports, seeing me in office at 2100 (after he came back from the pub to collect his bag) came and asked me what was I doing so late at work - upon which I told him my paris dillema. And he said he would be more that happy to help me out with Paris, even if it meant working some extra hours Smile

Incident 2 - We are shifting offices, and the seating arrangements are being decided. The senior most member of my team (57, just 3 yrs away from retirement) was given a bigger space to sit, but it was a bit far away from where I sit (which are much smaller bays). he objected to it saying that he would rather sit with me as it would be more productive than to sit far away in a bigger space. I was touched !!

That sounds good, Gautam. I'm glad it is not taking too long. Both guys sound nice.

What's "a report"? Is that somebody you report to, or somebody that reports to you? (Confused!)

Hope you're having a GOOD WEEK!

Pif, A report is someone who reports into me.

Hiama, no velvet touch I think, but just a breath of fresh air - I guess people have started being valued and are getting ownership of things, which always excites them. And some of the stuff which I have been doing seems to be working.

Like for example, in our team meetings every week, instead of going through the same old management updates and issues and concerns, we chose a topic for brainstorming. And from next week onwards, I am going to invite a person from outside the department to give an overview of his area so that our horizons are expanded a bit.

Intial feedback is that our team meeting format is so popular that other people are planning to do the same.

Gautam, you are wonderful and your success doesn't surprise me one bit.

Your creativity is exceptional--far too few businessmen have that quality. Getting to know more about the way other departments work will only make your team more successful.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Yes, I find it difficult to believe Super G's importance - he didn't appear to have a big head or anything! Razz Cool

This here was his means of transportation from the bistro - where Steve (as 41oo) and I had lunch with Gautam - to his office

The office is about 150 meters away, and that was before he had been kicked up!

Good Grief! Now that we have a gen-u-wine capitalist in our midst, who has all the good looking women on A2K lining up for his autograph, what am I supposed to do out here on the street corner all by myself with my neo-socialist, anti-globalization rants?

Walter
They were waiting outside the restaurant where I met him, too, now that I think of it. He didn't say they were for him, though. He just waited there until I limped away, a poor cripple, a long way from her hotel...

Dang, I need to get and post a copy of my friend's fantastic picture taken in the dressage school in Vienna, what is it, can't remember the name since I am not into dressage myself. But what an incredible photo. And I fancy Gautam would have been guest of honor there too.

Well, who knows, they wouldn't let me in to see... kidding, they let Sue and Walter (business partner and husband) in.

Gautam, kidding aside, I am so pleased. This isn't fluke pleasantness from people, but a real response to who you are and how you lead.

Even if the odd rebellion or two occurs, as it always does in offices, if not rebellion, some thicket of difficulty... it is clear you have a good sense of overview and appreciation of people. I am very pleased, as I said, for you, but... also by you.

I know, Gautam, but since there are a lot of youngsters (and Christians) here, I didn't want to post that pic!
