Contact has already been established. After careful study I have come to certainty about the extraterrestrial origin of some UFOs.
The problem is that contact was established by military people. They're not the most nuanced in social manners, as we all know. And they tend to see everything and everyone as a potential threat.

Frankly, I can't see the government capable of keeping such a secret. THAT WOULD BE MORE PHENOMENAL THAN THE ARRIVAL OF ALIENS.

Keeping a secret that big would imply a bureaucratic competence that does not square with observation.
