Rik Mayall is my favourite comedian after Peter Cook. I like lots of comics but only a top two, I don't know who would be number three, but there are dozens of contenders.

Neither Mayall nor Cook fared well in America. Mayall did one film, Drop Dead Fred, and that was it. Peter Cook got a part as a butler in a short lived sit com.

Meanwhile the likes of Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand and James Corden knock it out of the park.

In a nutshell that's why we're critical of American humour.

Dudley Moore also hit the heights, and in fairness he was very funny and talented, but of the partnership Peter Cook was so much funnier. Listen to some Derek and Clive and you hear Moore losing it and collapsing with laughter over and over again.

I'm happy to get to know these guys. I will go through the youtube lists to see what else they have.

Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson, (who played Vivian in The Young Ones) were comedy partners who started off together.

They used to do a stand up set called The Dangerous Brothers. They were also in Filthy, Rich and Catflap and Bottom.

Another alternative comedy vehicle was The Comic Strip. That was a group of comics a bit like Carry On, but not ****. Rik and Ade are in a lot of those.

My favourite one is Mr Jolly Lives Next Door where they play a couple of would be escorts living next door to an assassin, played by Peter Cook.

Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door was the search term that opened the Youtube door. There is a long line of pertinent videos.

There's another Mr Jolly/Mr Jelly, a clown in the TV series Psychoville.

I've never seen it, the Kid has coulrophobia so it's a no no.

I searched it and marked it for later.

This is what I'm watching now. It's on it's 5th or 6th season. There is talk of it being remade for America. This clip deals with Grumio the slave.

Another one I will need to search on American youtube.

The British one is very good. Seth Rogan is working on an American version so it won't be up to much.

Why do people think he's funny?

I haven't encountered Rogan in my viewing habits as yet. I advance slowly.

Consider yourself lucky.

This is also very good. It's about a Jewish family with two boys who have moved out of home. They meet up every week for Friday Night Dinner and the lads start acting like kids again.

The father is brilliant.
