I agree, but that is the only difference I see in the laws.
And to me, that is a difference that doesnt matter.

And to me, it's the difference that makes all the difference in the world.

In one case, the law is used for investigating only those who are already in the criminal justice system (as a way of removing a bad element from our society).

In the other, the law is used to oppress a segment of society, and subjects law-abiding citizens (and legal residents) to unreasonable scrutiny and obligations. (If you're brown, you damned well better not forget your ID when you go buy diapers in the middle of the night.)

Try and keep that kind of outrage for something suitable - maybe. See what's going on with deporting illegals out of Japan:
Quote:
...A Ghanaian who had lived illegally in Japan, Mr Suraj was being deported on March 22nd, when he was lifted and forced onto the plane in handcuffs with a towel gagging him and knotted in the back to restrain him. An autopsy failed to determine a cause of death...

@High Seas,
While I agree that what happened to Mr. Suraj is outrageous (based on what you've provided here), I fail to see how it relates in any way to Arizona's new law.

@ebrown p,
There is not a huge difference between the AZ and CA laws. A person is effectively arrested when he or she is stopped and held while a ticket is issued, etc.

@Advocate,
Is a person effectively arrested when she reports a rape? (And if so, do rape victims have the right to remain silent.)

@ebrown p,
That would be great question for Bill Clinton.

@H2O MAN,
What does Obama say about his illegal welfare queen aunt, whose deportation from Massachusetts to Kenya was postponed yet again?

@High Seas,
well what what it's worth nothing was postponed, she has been granted asylum. This is somehow related to Arizona immigration laws?

@High Seas,
My last flight home from Australia, the young man sitting beside me was escorted onto the plane by 2 uniformed police officers, he was in handcuffs. As the plane was preparing for take-off the officers left the plane. Later in the flight he told me his visa had expired 2 years prior and following 2 years of court hearings all of which he was in contempt of court and so was forcibly exited from Australia back to the USA. I have no idea how this relates to Arizona immigration laws so I will leave it up to you to make a connection.

@dyslexia,
And I will in turn leave it to our senior diplomats at the State Department - they've been digging themselves into ever-deeper holes:
Quote:
.....compared a tough new immigration law in Arizona to China's rights record must retract his "offensive" remark and apologize, the state's two US senators demanded Tuesday.

Republican Senators Jon Kyl and John McCain accused Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner of implying that the Arizona measure "is morally equivalent to China's persistent pattern of abuse and repression of its people."

Could you explain what a rape has to do with a cop pulling someone over for speeding.
