If you don't trust your legs, it's not so much the walking you need to worry about. It'll be the standing in line. You'll wait in front of the ticket counter in Clinton Castle, and then again in front of the tent in Battery park, where you go through security before you enter the ship. Once you're on the island, it's 50 yards from the ship to the entry, and as much walking as you want within the Museum. (I'm pretty sure they have elevators, but maybe you want to check just to be sure.)
Thank u, Thomas. I usually rent little cars,

@Thomas,
It seems to me as if you want to roll everything back to the 1850s (Set can correct me if I have the wrong time period).

Personally, I like being able to trust that the food I buy is very likely safe. I like being able to trust that I can safely drink the tap water in the U.S. I like knowing that building codes protect me and my family. I like not having to breathe soot, and not having rivers catch on fire. I like knowing that my employer is subject to rules about how he can treat me.

After all of the vegetable and ground beef recall that we have had you can say THAT! After all of the poisoned foods as a result of China you can say THAT!

After reports come out that say our drinking water is less secure than it has been for about 100 years you can say that! After Milwaukee you can say THAT!

AFter Upper Big Branch coal mine you can say THAT! Seriously, there are a lot of rules but try to get some action when you have been wronged by an employer or they are otherwise not following these niffty rules, you will find the going tough most of the time.

@hawkeye10,
What you overlook is that the Republicans are in a position to define what is legal.

@engineer,
Your posts are always so logical and eloquent that it seems unnecessary to add anything but I suspect that some very religious Mexicans might have quite a bit in common in terms of world view with some fundamentalist Americans . . . of course, not the Holy Ghost and the Virgin Mary. There is a tendency for fundamentalism philosophies from any religion to merge.

@hawkeye10,
That is the problem, isn't it? That the Republicans are doing the bidding of the corporate class. I thought those temporary visas reprehensible. They effectively said we (the US) will use you (visa holders) and your labor then we will throw you away.

@DrewDad,
BUt, you can't trust that any of your blue highlighted things can be trusted! Corporate America is the typical dirty bird that fouled its own nest.

Consider all that Chinese plaster board that has to be removed from thousands of houses . . . the contamination of food that is widespread . . . the rules employers break daily.

I just like to remind everyone that without the blue referenced regulations you would have never heard about the Chinese sheet rock, the adulterated food etc etc.

The world is a horror at present, it would be a hell without the few poor reins we have on greed.

That's a really pathetic comeback, Hawkeye. Something has to be perfect or it's a failure, eh?

I think you mean 1920, not 1850. I do approve of abolishing slavery and of emancipating women, the Chinese, and the Blacks. (And frankly, I'm surprised I need to point this out to you; we've been talking politics for about seven years now.)

About the safety regulations -- fair enough. Maybe I did get carried away about opposing them yesterday. (It happens in political discussions sometimes.) But the issue of safety regulations is distinct from the issue of illegal immigration. The government can inspect factories, and close them down if they're unsafe, without checking the passports of the people who work there. And the problem you pointed out earlier -- that illegal immigrants are to afraid to blow the whistle so the government won't show up to inspect -- is solved under the immigration policy I'm advocating: Legalize all immigration, just as it was in 1920.

Just pointing out that you picked as your supportive argument for government three particular areas that are routinely used to argue that our government is not working well. All three are things that our government once did well, but no longer does...food safety, drinking water safety, and workplace safety.

Why? We did it at the time because the flu pandemic and war had just killed a pretty good slice of the world population, and bodies were needed. We don't need more people now, so why would we change the labor supply situation in the way you suggest?

What is good for America and what is good for each person who wants to come to America, are not always the same thing. It was in 1920, it is not now.

@hawkeye10,
Well, why don't you show us some data that backs up that assertion. Something that isn't just an artifact of better reporting in the 21st Century.

I see no need to do the work unless my assertions are challenged with evidence. Neither a counter assertion nor a demand for evidence are good enough.

You're the one that made the assertion. I'm happy to ignore your babbling unless and until you provide some evidence.
