Yeh I know - sucks. There's always the Turkish/Moroccan shops over at the A'weg, they're open late. And some supermarkets stay open till ten. Thaz about it.

And you know what - until the "opening times liberalisation", just, I dunno, five years ago or so, they were all legally obliged to close at six.

In Germany, its worse.

You just can't keep yourself from the cucumbers section, huh?

List:
-milk
-eggs

Carry by hand - not enough for cart and I hate those little baskets
Saturday morning - the only time I go grocery shopping is when I'm making French toast for the kiddos and we're out of one or more of the above.

Nice post by George.

Zucchini, heeven.

24 hrs., fabulous to have some open then. Happened in Los Angeles - probably back in the eighties. I'm so old I remember things starting to be open on Sunday. But I am a throwback to European ways in that like Nimh, I tend to shop often and light, at my local coop. I'm a woman though, so so what, re this topic question.

Lots of people here know I moved from LA (millions, gazillions) to a small town in CA near the Oregon border (25,000). Big f-difference in lots of ways, as you can imagine. And getting to a Big City involves a 5-hr drive.
A gorgeous 5-hr drive. So,

what?

there aren't a lot of available men for a middleaged woman, even a somewhat fetching one, on a good day, in a tiny grocery store. And which of those would agree with me on anything?

Listen, would you (you know who you are) linger a bit over the onions?

hmmmmm

the fellas I've met in grocery stores - they're usually not looking for agreement on too many things. Well, one was, and I did spend a considerable amount of time with him. A bit too young for the long run. <sigh>

Cambridge has the one 24-hour shaws by MIT and a 24-hour CVS in Porter Square. I hate shaws. Why can't we have a whole foods open 24 hours? That'd be huge!

Thanks for the input George. You should shop more.

I'm a shop-o-phobe. Unless it's something like French toast ingredients, I need a very specific list (right down to sizes and brand names) or I freak out.

May I point out that there is a zoo IN Stoneham. Stoneham ITSELF is not a zoo. Well, not most of the time...

The Fells is one of my favorite places. It extends through Stoneham, Winchester, Melrose and Medford. There a hiking trails and a mountain bike trail (but the more maniacal of the mountain bikers ignore the sign that forbid them from the hiking trails).

There's a large open area called the Sheepfold that is intended for picnicking. But it is doggie central and many of the dog owners don't bother pooper-scooping.

The MDC had been maintaining boats, canoes and kayaks that you can use (no fee!) during the summer on Spot Pond. What with budget cuts, I don't know whether they will continue.

I love jogging/walking the trails especially in spring and autumn.

Ah! Thank you!

Are the boats for use to any and all or just residents? I need to spend some time there, I think. We came in from Winchester, where my sister lives.

Littlek: boats are for any and all. You need to take a test to use the sailboats, tho.
