What do YOU do when you can't bear your job any more?

@dlowan,
I can really understand that. Working only with troubled adolescents is a very tall order! Your previous job was ultra demanding. I remember. I think you worked with a great team of people, which made a really hard job more bearable?

The "student part" makes casual teaching pretty much OK. But then, working in the same school for something like 4 years, I know them quite a number of them pretty well. And I get to avoid all the bureaucratic crap! Very Happy

@Robert Gentel,
Lord! I don't have the energy for working 24 hours a day for weeks on end any more!!

And yes, I am trying to cut down on spending big time.

@msolga,
Yes, I am not averse to the "normal" ones.

The team DID make it way better...mostly.

I have a friend who doers relief teaching and the occasional contract. She enjoys the lack of involvement with the bureaucracy...but it also seems like a bit of a lonely life, teamily speaking.

But...I am a very happy team person, if I have a simpatico team.

Mine is getting better, from my perspective, I must say.

@dlowan,
Trust me: the less you work, the less you spend.
You don't have to cheer yourself up nearly so much! Very Happy

I know what you mean about not having the energy for the endless slog. I couldn't do it now, either. Not with demanding work, anyway.

@msolga,
You know, what scares me is that most of my outlay seems to be on non-negotiables.....water, electricity, land tax, council rates, goddam strata fees.

I'd consider renting the place out for a few years, and go and live in a rented hovel, but rents are outrageous, and there is no security of tenure. I hate moving now!!!!

I know about the less you earn, the less you spend...I lived for 10 years as a student. But...really...I don't want to live with a passel of people any more.

I do have a car, but it's old enough to have sex, and there is little outlay.

I HAVE been spending to get my place right....but that is pretty much all over now.

@dlowan,
Yep, the interminable non-negotiables are what eat most of my $$$, too. No 1 priority. Gobble, gobble, gobble. Watch your money fly! Wink

You couldn't take on an "acceptable" renter for a bit? Or is that completely unappealing?

No, couldn't do that anymore, either.
What seemed "colourful" as a young thing kinda looks like a potential nightmare now! Laughing

@msolga,
Not only completely unappealing, also impossible...I no longer have a spare bedroom. It is my study, and I love it.

@ossobuco,
Yeah....I took a breather in the middle of my drive from one place to another today.

I might try and do that a little bit...when I am not rushing from one place to another.

Thing is, when I get like this, I am reluctant to take a break, for fear, if I leave in the depths of the loathing bit, I'll not be able to force myself to return!!

This is based on the perils of avoidance of situations that cause anxiety...the more you avoid, the harder it gets, generally.

But, it is hard to get that right...sometimes one just DOES need a bit of a break!!!

I'll try to give you an earnest answer tomorrow as it's running a bit late and I have to get up kind of early tomorrow.

I never liked beer. I used to have to drink some of it, in my childhood; dislike the flavor.
