@emshae,
How often do you date now? do you go out on group dates or individual dates?

@emshae,
it might be a good idea to start in the shallow end of the pool

in other words - date before you get a boyfriend

you seem to have an idea what dating is - since you've said you've never dated

what is it that you haven't done if you haven't dated?

@ehBeth,
Beth -- today a lot of teenagers just hang out...they meet at the mall, at parks, at events, sometimes with others, sometimes by themselves...without "going on dates" like we are used to. They often have boyfriends and girlfriends without ever going on what we would call a "date." This was a real eye-opener for me when I started teaching middle and high school kids a few years ago.

Oh! And another change...once they make a connection and decide to be boyfriend/girlfriend, they absolutely DO NOT see other people. That is considered cheating.

Waaaaay different than the days when I dated four different guys in one week and had no idea how many other girls they were seeing...and wouldn't have asked since it was none of my business because we weren't "serious."

I feel like a dinosaur.

(With great memories...Smile )

Yeah! Relax and be yourself. If he likes you, great! If he doesn't, better to know it sooner than later.

@Eva,
That "hanging out" is what I consider sorta beginner dating. You can't have a relationship with a partner one-on-one without a little practice in a group setting. It leads to messes now, just like it did in dinosaur days.

@Eva,
emshae doesn't seem to have any opportunity to hang out with young men - how is she supposed to learn to behave in a one-on-one relationship without some of that hanging out experience?

there's quite a bit of hanging out around here (yanno - 4 boys and 5 girls going to a movie, that sort of thing - 3 boys and 4 girls going out to eat etc etc )

Well, for starters, she can hang out with her best friend's brother at their house.

Do you go to church, emshae? Any interesting possibilities there?

Oh...and this guy. He's 17, right? So he drives, but you don't. I wonder how your parents would handle it if he wanted to take you somewhere...(some parents object when their daughters are under 16...when's your birthday?)

@emshae,
Then just enjoy it! Talk to him, go for walks, talk to him some more, introduce him to your horses and let him watch you ride, text him, meet him for a movie, bring him some cookies you make, simple stuff like that.

September is only 8 months away. Will your parents let you go places with a boy then?
