Just ran my first 4 mile in over a year.

It was not pretty.

I'm trying to get my running legs back, too.

The Widget Factory has a team entered in a corporate race in Nashua and I
signed up. My goal is not to embarrass myself. There are usually few
entrants in my age category (I recently graduated from "60-69" to "70-
deceased"), so I may even finish "in the money".

@George,
I was thinking about that 60-69 group on Sunday. Just turning 69 myself, I thought, "Those punky 60 year olds are going beat my ass today, but, next year, I will be the youngest 70 year old in the group of geezers !! so I can look forward to that."

@Joe Nation,
What joy to look at race results and see others in your age group, or even
younger groups, whose asses YOU have whipped!

@George,
Now that I have slipped a bit, there are fewer of them, but I am a savvy enough runner that, in the last mile on Sunday, I was looking around for any gray heads to pass.

The Harvard Pilgrim Corporate 5K is this evening in Nashua NH.

The weather will be high 40s and drizzly. I'd prefer it a bit warmer and drier.

This should be fun. The road races I've done in the past few years have
been with my son Rhys who has some physical problems so I haven't gone
all out. Tonight I'll see just how slow I really am.

Anytime I hear runners talk, I think of Jim Fixx and Greta Weiss. Then I think of the free radicals that aerobic exercise produces. Then I think of Satchel Paige who is claimed to have said he never runs anywhere, just walks, or something similar.

Then I think of a nice cup of coffee.

Did the 5K yesterday. But it wasn't five kilometers. An accident forced
them to change the route at the last minute and it only went 2.8 miles,
rather than 3.1.

My strategy was to go out hard for the first mile and then see what I had
left. I did the first mile in 8:35 which is fast for me these days. Then
somewhere in the middle of the second mile, I just started to fade. Mile
two was 9:09 and I finished the last 0.8 at a 9:50 pace. Final time: 25:35.

I got second place in my age group but there were only three of us.
