@Joe Nation,

I just want to be at the same weight I am now. Shocked
I have never made any resolutions. Cool
And I don't want anything to hurt. Wink
My routine is just situps, pushups, swimming, walking and bicycle riding.

Best thing you can do for fingers and forearms.

@Joe Nation,

i think the key to push-upping is consistency.
if done every day, i've found it's easier to slowly increase the number.

do take a rest day, maybe one day a week.

it is finite though, and i am getting close to hitting the wall.
i blame gravity...

On the push-ups, I've been using the same rule I learned with weights.
Pick a weight, do three sets of ten repetitions, one minute rest in between.
The last four of the the third set should be a real effort to complete, if not, then raise the weight on the next set of three that you do.

The same works for crunches.

Cruising with the running, just a little behind my mileage goal....

Latest results: Most push-ups in a row: last week 27 this week 30
Most crunches in a minute: Last week 31 this week 35

No change in my flexibility reach limit.

50 push-ups (in a minute) puts you in the 99th percentile for all men over 30 years of age.

the 50 push-up barrier has been breached.
each time i did a set it got a smidge easier, so this morning i did 52.
will stick with 52 for a week...

You're not doing 50-52 in one set every time you do push-ups, right?

50 pushups in one minute is actually easier to do then 50 in two minutes. Harder to go slow then it is fast.

@Cycloptichorn,
True. I only put in the time factor because the chart I use uses it. It assumes that's the most you can do in the first minute, doesn't count the other 126 done in the next five. Laughing

I've taken a week off from jogging.
My knees and back have been achy.
They seem to be getting better, so I'll be easing on into it again soon.

I did 20 minutes on the rower and 15 on the elliptical at lunch time.

I gave serious consideration to doing push-ups.
Then I broke into hysterical laughter.

Taking time off from jogging definitely helped my back. Then I messed it up
again putting the middle seat back into the family minivan. Damn.

So I was back off the streets for a few days. Then came our scheduled day
of skiing at Loon Mt. Did my back feel well enough? Well . . .sorta . . .
But I had my own skis (former rentals I bought at the Building 19 "ski event")
and I really wanted to try them out. So I did.

I started on the novice slope and worked my way back to the intermediate
trails. The back was feeling OK and my quads were getting a great workout.
Conditions were not the best, loose granular with the occasional icy spot. I
was just a tad out of control when I caught an edge. I had a brief mid-air
oh-**** moment and then, thud. A ski went one way, pole went another,
and I came down hard on my right -- ahem -- hip.

I reassembled my equipment and finished the run. I was a bit sore, but
still in working order. That was yesterday. Today I got my show on the
road for about forty minutes of walk-a-little, jog-a-little. Some pain, but
on the whole, not too bad. Back at square one.

@George,
Rhys had a good day at the Adaptive Ski School.

He's going down the novice slope with his skis in wedge formation, tethered to
the instructor. He's actually initiating the turns himself. He needs more
practice, but the instructor is sure Rhys can get to the point where he can take
the novice slope on his own.

At the next Building 19 ski event, I'm getting him his own skis, boots and
bindings. And a helmet. When he finally does that trail untethered, you'll
hear me all the way from New Hampshire.

@Region Philbis,
I'm healing as fast as I can.
If I do a 5K in April, it will be as a workout with lots of company.
