that pizza doesn't grow on trees, ya know...
@Region Philbis,
If it did, I'd plant one.

It's a charity event. I'm assuming the money goes to the charity.
@tsarstepan,
Yeah, just went back and checked. It benefits Juvenile the Diabetes
Research Foundation. Seems ironic at first glance.
Hi. After a few months of training, I have succeeded in running 5km in 23 minutes in a competition. Not that bad, I think.
@helmi15,
All right! That's great time.
after hibernating for two months, i got off my lazy duff and went for a run today.
felt good, but i was rusty...
My man Rhys and I ran the Jingle Bell Run yet again.
"Ran" might be an overstatement, but we got from start to finish.
@George,
just went back to re-read the start of the thread
which began with Jespah getting ready to do the Jingle Bell run in 2009
We prepared for the Jingle Bell Run by not preparing for the Jingle Bell Run
-- or any run, for that matter. These days Rhys works Saturday mornings
and that was when we used to jog together. Now we spend ten minutes on
the treadmill as a warmup when we go to the gym and that's the extent of
our running.
We started at a decent pace (for us) and kept it going for a mile and a half.
Then we walked for a bit. Then ran for bit. Then walked. Rinse. Repeat.
With about twenty yards to go, Rhys put on a burst of speed. I followed,
but once again he came in just ahead of me, continuing his five-year streak.
After the race we met our Team Manager, the Lovely Bride, at Mr. Crepe for
lunch.
It's December 30th and I have not run outdoors since December 18, a wimpy
two miles on the day after the Jingle Bell Run. Mostly that's due to the frosty
weather. These days I won't run outside if the temperature (real-feel) is
below 20ยบ F. It's way lower than that right now.
I actually ran on a treadmill at the gym the other day and I hate treadmills.
The plan was to do 40 minutes, but a hammy cramp stopped me at 35. I'm
giving it another go this afternoon. Meanwhile, I am getting fatter by the day.
I suppose I could just eat less . . .
Nah.
@George,
the only running i've done in the past two weeks is running to catch a bus...
I did thirty boring minutes on the treadmill. No cramps. Memphis was playing
Iowa State in the Something-Or-Other Bowl on one TV. CNN was trashing
Trump on another. Yet a third advertised what appeared to be either exercise
gear or a sex aid for the truly desperate.
After my thirty minutes was up I had a wonderfully hot shower, got dressed
and picked Rhys up from work -- all the while glowing with salubrity.
When it's 40 degrees, mostly sunny and the parking lots are clear, the time
has come to pull on the outdoor gear and go for a run. So yesterday I did.
More accurately I went for a brisk walk with a one minute jog every two
minutes. No point in going crazy. I hadn't been out jogging since well
before Christmas. I was out for 36 minutes and went 2.7 miles.
I work in a technology park with interconnected parking lots. I can jog for
over three miles just by going along the perimeters of the lots. Boring, but
safer than using roads made narrow by piles of snow.
The weather looks reasonable today so I may try 2-minute walks alternating
with 2-minute jogs.
I went for another jog/walk yesterday with intervals of two minutes walking
and two minutes jogging. I was out for forty minutes and went a little over
5 kilometers (3.18 miles) at an average pace of 12:35.
Today I'll cross-train with Rhys at the gym.
It was grey out -- a damp, chilly New England kind of grey. The sky was
brooding and morose. If someone I knew looked like that, I woouldn't leave
him alone with any sharp implements.
On the other hand, the streets and sidewalks were mostly clear and the
temperature was above freezing. Having enough time and not enough
reasons not to, I took my chubby little self for a jog.
I jogged around town for thirty minutes. Slow. Very slow. But, hey, thirty
minutes jogging outside.
@George,
i did a four-miler, first time out in a month.
decent pace, some walking.
the reservoir track was a slushy mess, so i stayed on the concrete...
another four-miler today.
excellent pace, much better than the three-miler i struggled with on thursday...
The weather was lousy Friday, so I did four miles on a treadmill at the gym
It did nothing to change my distaste for treadmills, but at least I got the
miles in. I would have run at lunch today but the boss took the group out
for lunch in honor of my 15th year at The Widget Factory. Maybe tonight.
