instead of the usual (boring) 4-miler i do in riverside park, i decided to venture over to the central park rezz.

outstanding!

one lap is 1.66 mile... add in the distance to and from from where i was staying, and it was approx 4 miles total...

Anybody still running?

My jogs have been fewer, shorter and slower lately. That's OK. It gives me
something to use for a New Year's resolution.

As for this year, tonight after work I'm heading over to Marathon Sports in
Melrose to pick up race numbers and t-shirts for Rhys and me. On Sunday
we will do the Somerville Jingle Bell run decked out in Santa hats and ugly
Christmas sweatshirts. I do not foresee any personal bests being set.

@George,
I always read your running adventures.

I'm out of it now, the paving around here being weird; though that didn't usually bother me earlier, it does now. I take a nice stick to the mailbox, which area is a jigsaw of cracked concrete and street paving mess, the jigsaw with counteracting tilts, as well as my cell phone in case I crash. I've always been a good faller (stories, I've stories), and so far so good.

I'm blaming it on the locale, Albuquerque, where it seems many contractors are dummies, or worse, grading people's patios toward the house and back doors, and the city seems uneducated re civil engineering matters - not to mention totally idiotic planning.

So, no, I might still be able to run, but where? The only good paving I've noticed lately was the parking lot of Home Depot. They must have hired some out of town firm.

The old me, of not so long ago, would have introduced myself to the appropriate ABQ city departments, giving them creds, starting with planning, but I was busy with other stuff. I'm sorry now that I didn't speak up.

@ossobucotemp,
I've never been to ABQ (but I kinda like the music). The paving up this way
varies widely. I'm pretty good about finding bad spots to trip over. I've
been told I could trip over the lines on a crosswalk. Tis a foul aspersion.

If you don't run, do you walk a lot instead?

@Region Philbis,
Weather schiddiness is upon us!

Gonna be 23F with a wind-chill of 6 at noon.

Today's plan: the fitness-room triathlon
12 minutes rower
12 minutes elliptical
12 minutes bike

Hopefully the TV in the fitness room is tuned to Sports Channel and Cari
Champion (yowza!).

I picked up numbers and tees last night.
The shirts are -- as usual -- butt ugly.

@George,
I miss it. My right knee and left hip both say, "No, ya don't."

@George,
I miss the old me, the one who walked and jogged and swam a lot, in different years. I don't walk a lot now, have slight balance issues, but still walk some. Here in weird pavement ville, it's easiest to walk down the middle of the road, which at certain times of day, has few moving vehicles. Now, just in case, I always carry my charged dumb phone, even to the mailbox that's about a block away but as I described is encircled by f'up paving. Turning around and getting to the blacktop paving again is a relief.

Not to whine, lots of people deal with physical changes. I'm upping my exercise in the house. My balance issues have as much to do with my "bad" eye as muscles (etc) or poor paving, but in the house are way less, plus music is at hand. Keep on movin', eh?

Jespah, with the pain, you're dealing with more. Eeeek!

@ossobucotemp,
That reminds me, I need to call sports doctor lady and tell her I can go this month without an injection (so, yay).

Rehab is an awesome thing. But eventually, someone will have to go in with a chisel and redo the inner knee workings, I suspect.

@jespah,
Several of my dance friends have had knee surgery done in the past year and a half. Everyone's back dancing. Recovery time was surprisingly brief. For one it was her second knee and she said procedures had changed a lot in the three years since her first knee was done.

I still wouldn't want it done <squeamish me>

@ehBeth,
So far, we are going with rehab and rest and all of that happy stuff. Doctor is very conservative re surgery. Me, eh, I'm seeing how I do this way.

Please do. I've done road races in the snow. I don't recommend it.
