@jespah,
I've run my 3.8 mile loop each day for the last three days! Now if Old Man
Winter will keep co-operating, maybe I can get back in the groove.
As I try to get my groove back, I realize that exercise alone doesn't cut it,
at least not at my age. I've got to eat less. That means I've got to get
used to feeling hungry a lot.
Jes made some interesting posts about this a while back.
The AccuWeather site told me that the temperature in Westford was 27° F
with a Real Feel™ of 19°. Normally I won't go out for a jog in sub-20 temps
(or what Really Feels sub-20), but things have been anything but normal
here in the upper-righthand corner.
I took a partly-jog partly-walk tour of the parking lots in our technology park.
The sun was bright, the wind was bearable and my legs were uncomplaining.
The jaunt took me thirty minutes and I even worked up a sweat.
We returned to the gym Saturday afternoon. It had been three weeks
since our last visit. The time in between we devoted to the Snowzercise
Workout. Frankly, we were sick of it.
We worked on our backs (rows, deltoid flies and pulldowns) and biceps
(cable curls and the curl bar). For the core we did some twists and
finished off with a treadmill session.
The Rás na hÉireann 5k road race is Sunday March 15. Rhys, Nigel and I are
running in it, although "running" might be an overstatement.
Thanks to the brutal weather we've been having, none of us have really
trained for it.
This year's goal: home before dark.
@George,
Have fun! (I want to say "break a leg", but it doesn't quite sound quite like the right thing to wish for in a run.)
@Thomas,
Especially given the amount of ice on ground!
We'll be careful.
I jogged outside yesterday and it looks like I'll be able to get out again today.
Can Spring be far?
It was 53 and sunny at lunch time.
Practically summer.
I jogged two and a half miles at an easy pace.
I ought to be able to pick up the pace a bit next time.
On a cold damp day in Somerville, Rhys, Nigel and I ran the Ras na hEireann
5K. Rhys and I ran in our green derbies and finished in 38:47 by my watch.
For Rhys, this is excellent time, especially since he'd only run indoors on
the gym treadmill this winter.
I don't know Nigel's time yet, but he always does well.
The Lovely Bride performed Team Manager duties, ferrying us to Davis Sq.
and maintaining base camp in Mr. Crepe. After the race we had crepes
for lunch.
I'm now having a hoppy brown ale from Smuttynose Brewery. Next order of
business: fall asleep in front of the TV.
Another fine day for the Great Blue Heron Canoe and Running Society!
@George,
I love great blue herons. Had one land in my small pond in california back yard once. He (she?) was almost as tall as the "pond, which was a concrete type planter with a small fountain/pump, hyacinths, and mosquito fish.
Congrats to all of you on the run and the management.
@ossobuco,
Thanks, osso!
We had a great time.
The name comes from a our summer canoe outings.
We often see these birds on the Concord and Ipswich Rivers.
Old Man Winter has tightened his grip again. The last two days have had
wind chills in the teens and single digits. Too bad, because on Tuesday I
was able to pick up my outdoor pace a bit. 9:54 ain't nuthin to write
home to Mom about, but it's hopeful.
And tomorrow -- the first day of Spring -- it's gonna snow.
@tsarstepan,
Bostonians, I don't know what happened to your Artisani Park runs, but
I've been told there will be a 5k on the Esplanade near the Boston Commons on May 30. Might you guys be interested in attending? I'm thinking of signing up myself.
