@ehBeth,
During the mid-afternoon lacuna yesterday I fell to telling a youngish lady how taken I was by the delicate expression --"How marvellous for everyone" which Beth had used in relation to the far-fetched fantasy of my appearance in Boston. It was so redolent of Lady Bracknell's haughty style.
In order to perform this literary feat appropriately I felt it necessary to engage in a pre-amble concerning the A2K Running Club and its contemporary doings.
As I was explaining about the Running of the Five Thousand my youngish friend interrupted. (I make exceptions regarding being interrupted for ladies I am fairly familiar with.)
She said--"Do you mean that thousands of expensively educated Americans drive their gas-guzzlers long distances
IN ORDER TO RUN!!!!!????" --feigning childlike astonishment.
She is one of those admirable ladies who rarely rise from their beds before the sun has started its sinking operation.
