@Merry Andrew,
And I did - it made me laugh. Might as well use the real word. Smile
I guess that's the point.

Should I be understanding that meeping is somewhat similar to ribbiting?

There was a Muppet show where they were on Mars or somewhere similar and these creatures came out of holes saying meep and disappearing again. There was also another one where they each made a different noise and it was put to a tune. Is that the meep and not Beaker ?

Anyway, when I was a school we had a lot of fun with talking like the Swedish Chef and look how I turned out....on second thought...

just do "beep" instead. If the teacher calls you out tell her that "beep" is not on the list of words to not be used.

I suspect that playing the smart ass in front of law and order school staff is not an effective strategy.

I suspect that banning words with arbitrary meaning is not an effective strategy at addressing behavioral issues at a school.

Not just ineffective. Counter productive.

Being a smart ass within the rules however is a wonderful exercise in civil disobedience. One does not have to accomplish anything by saying "meep."

@Diest TKO,
Actually, I have used the opposite psychology.

My twin nephews lived with me for a few months when they were 5. They had a problem with swearing.

So I told them they could say anything as long as they didn't use the "really bad word"-- which one day I accidentally slipped was "quap".

This worked like a charm (the other words lost their luster real quick).

((maybe this school isn't so stupid after all))

@Diest TKO,
I'm sure the kids have thought about that.

I think it's hilarious! kids (as always) having fun by trying to irritate authority figures and foolish school authorities taking the bait.
I would suspect that both sides are then 'vindicated' in their core beliefs, ie:

Teachers/officials: "Kids require constant control and threat of punishment"

Kids: "adults are stupid killjoys"

A NY Attorney has sent a one-wordd email to the principle: 'meep'
She describes it and the principle's bizarre reaction at the link below:

So in solidarity with the students of Danvers High, and on my own initiative, I took about five seconds and sent an email to Principal Thomas Murray ( [email protected] ), Assistant Principal Mark Strout ( [email protected] ), Assistant Principal Cornelia Varoudakis ( [email protected] ), and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lisa Dana ( [email protected] ). All of these addresses are publicly available on the Danvers High School website.

Can you imagine their email servers will be drowned in a million 1 word emails consisting of only "meep."

Sent two emails ... Thomas Murray ( [email protected] ), Assistant Principal Mark Strout ( [email protected] ). Have to wait a minute per email using this anonymous email source. Okay, I'm a bit of a coward.

Hell, I signed my right name and used my regular g-mail account. There's no law against sending an e-mail that is in no way scurrilous.
