@oralloy,
What you consider compelling evidence is considerably different than what the courts including SCOTus consider complelling interest, and its their definition that determines it, not yours. Thus assault weapons (sic) bans stand.

@MontereyJack,
That is incorrect. There is no compelling government interest in outlawing pistol grips on a semi-auto rifle. You are violating people's civil liberties for fun.

When you finally stop violating people's civil liberties and compensate your victims, we can start talking about new gun control laws again.

Until then, it's Soup Nazi time. No new gun laws for you!

@farmerman,
It all boils down to one very simple question.

Q Why are there so many mass shooting in the US?

A The NRA.

@izzythepush,
All the NRA does is prevent progressives from violating people's civil liberties for fun. That doesn't cause a single shooting.

@oralloy,
Don't talk nonsense. The NRA ensures America has more homicides per capita than any other developed nation.

It's so sad little men can feel important.

That is incorrect. The NRA has nothing to do with any homicides.

Since the NRA has nothing to do with any homicides, there is no "it".

The specific class of gun that the term "assault weapon" refers to is the semiautomatic. And that is an inaccurate designation. The term "assault weapon" was created in order to expand the list of guns that some want banned. Your acquiescence to whatever comes out of a legal authority's mouth basically amounts to insisting it be so because daddy said. And your insistence that I shouldn't have an AR-5 is simply you trying to extend the parent-child relationship you have with authority onto me. No thanks, I don't bend over because someone tells me to.

An assault rifle has a select-fire option. An assault STYLE rifle does not have a select-fire option. If a rifle is not select-fire, then it is called a semiautomatic rifle, and NOT an assault rifle. So, if you believe that a semiautomatic rifle is an assault rifle by virtue of its appearance and despite its lack of select-fire capability, then you believe that style equals function. But style does not equal function. You may be inclined believe that it does because your daddy figure told you it does, but don't expect others to share your willingness to bend over.

@Glennn,
No one is telling you to bend over.

We're asking for your help to curb mass gun causalities. If your answer is to arm more citizens, then that isn't the right answer.

I'd written that earlier, but I'll do it again: I was trained on a select-fire battle rifle, which has been on the market since the 1950s. (In German it's called "Schnellfeuergewehr" [assault rifle], but in English "battle rifle".)

@Glennn,
Blah blah blah. We kow all that. You guys repeat it ad nauseam. However for twenty five years, the bans have been called assault weapon bans so that's the term I used. The fact remains a completely stock AR-15 style weaoion with a completely stock magazine is completely capable of committing mass murder in under ten seconds. As oralloy repeatedly points out, so is any other semiauto rifle with a detachable magazine. That added lethality of detachable magazines makes an already murderous weapon even more murderous, and in the real world gaining popularity as a murder weapon. That is something the large majority of Americans do NOT want. Blathr about it all you like. The voices are rising agaist it, and SCOTUS is letting bans on assault STYLE rifles, whatever you want to call them, stand. Tough ****.

When gun rights activists stop aiding and abetting and working for violating Americans' civil rights for fun, maybe people will listen to you, but not until then.

A rifle that can shoot 30 rounds in 30 seconds is a assault weapon.

@RABEL222,
Wrong again.

Assault weapons:

a) are capable of either full-auto or burst-fire

b) accept detachable magazines

c) fire rounds that are less powerful than a standard deer rifle, and

d) are effective at a range of 300 meters.

This means that semi-auto-only guns are not assault weapons.

This means that guns with fixed magazines are not assault weapons.

This means that guns that fire handgun/shotgun/rimfire rounds are not assault weapons.

This means that guns that fire rounds equal-to or greater-than the power of a standard deer rifle are not assault weapons.

I'm telling you no. Not until progressives stop violating people's civil liberties and pay compensation to their victims.

I realize that this isn't fair to you. You're not the one who is violating people's civil liberties for fun. I'm sorry about that. But it's the way the world is.

Too bad. You don't get any new gun laws. Enjoy the massacres.

Listen or not. Either way you're not getting any new gun laws.

Enjoy wringing your hands while you helplessly watch the massacres continue unabated.
