If each of those teachers had had a lever action .30-30 in a gun safe in their classrooms, the shooter may have caught the first classroom unaware, but he would have received a nasty surprise when he moved to the next classroom.

@McGentrix,
The 2nd ammendment says nothing about the 'right to hide your weapons' though. Concealed carry is for cowards.

@Olivier5,
There a lot that the 2nd amendment "scholars here" take for granted.

With great privilege comes great responsibility.

Sort of true. We do however have the right to carry guns when we go about in public.

There is no right to do it either openly or concealed, so the government is free to mandate either one or the other.

What is forbidden by the Second Amendment is for the government to outlaw both concealed and open carry at the same time. One or the other has to be allowed.

No it isn't. Don't be silly.

With great "power", not privilege. You need to watch "Spiderman" again.

Despite the numbers, it's not really a common event to have active shooters...

We're the only First World country that has gunmen running around the school halls as a regular occurrence. We're the only First World country that has metal detectors in our schools.

When does this crap stop?

There are metal detectors everywhere because of Islamic terror. When are we going to stop that?

It doesn't stop, at least not unless the government implements mind control to ensure that no one ever decides to go on a killing spree.

Setting aside questions of feasibility, I'm against having the government exercise mind control over us.

@oralloy,
So in other words, you're basically saying we are going to have to put up with school shootings and metal detectors in our schools forever. Why is it then, that the other First World countries where people are free to criticize the government and elect their leaders don't have to put up with this?

@Blickers,
It is far rarer in those countries for someone to choose to go on a shooting spree.

Who cares about other countries? This is OUR Constitution, not theirs. We do what America does, period. WE left the ultimate first world country (at that time)to form this one. Why do people forget just how different we truly are?

The 2nd amendment deals with the Federal Government. NYS is not the Federal Govt. You know that, right? States have the rights to create their own laws, no matter how banal or ill conceived. Did you know that?

The Fourteenth Amendment applies the Bill of Rights to state and local governments.

@McGentrix,
Right now we only have four votes on the Supreme Court in favor of enforcing the Second Amendment.

But we have three liberal extremists who are advancing in age:
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, age 85
Anthony Kennedy, age 81
Stephen Breyer, age 79

Once Trump makes a couple more appointments, the US Supreme Court will explain it to the 50 states.

that followed

They don't have a clue, did you actually read the ravings of our knuckle draggers? They have been brainwashed...and have no clue what independent thinking is...they need the extremists to tell them what to think.....like good little boys
.
They don't know they can actually ask questions, thats why they rely on loudmouths to tell them what to think.

It's only a matter of time before the faithful find out their "leaders" don't give a good God @#%$ what happens to them.

@McGentrix,
Try to follow. My point was that there doesn't seem to be a constitutional protection for the right of the people to carry a concealed gun.
