@Izzie,
Ahhh, Izzie...... You hit the old trivial guy on the head with your remark about brass monkeys. The term, "It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey." came from the olden days of the big sailing ships with canvas and cannons. Along with the cannons there were cannon balls - which were stacked up in pyramids by each cannon. These stacks - in order to be stable - were started 0n a base - a brass plate with indentations to fit the particular ball size. Then the other balls were rested on top of the base balls until there was only one ball left on top - forming a pyramid. When the weather got cold the brass - being of a different metal - would shrink faster than the iron balls, and when a certain cold temp came about, the balls would roll off the bottom brass plate. The brass plate was called a "monkey".

And, that's the way it was. Big Grin

@danon5,
Big Grin too. Love a bit of trivia and nothing is trivial!

Tell ya what - they were brave souls for being in the water in those temps - wet suits or not! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... no way, no chance, no brainer!

Invigorating I reckon - I got chilly just looking at the pics! Razz

g'day Wildclickers

brrr, visiting the Pacific during the Spring is just way to cold for me. Wind, fog, and very few surfers, although in a month there'll be less parking places along the Great Highway.

Late yesterday, last night and today, lots of rain. Suns peeking through now though Very Happy Expect more rain later today and tomorrow. Californias singing.

Beth, your maze reminds me of grocery shopping at four stores and finding food item sales on my what-to-buy list today. whew At the health food store, Wednesday is 'senior' day with 15% off the prices. Hurray!

Good day all ~

@Izzie,
Oh, Izzie. Also, the large majority of those old sailors on those wooden ships could not swim. Strange but true.

Creaking along today.

Brought my response over here from last thread... Hadn't seen that the thread had been started anew.
"Wow, these threads have been going on a LOOOOONGG time. What a tenacious & wonderful group. I still click daily @ the rainforest site & the Feed The People site. It's pretty neat to come back here & see so many people still at it. Keep up the good work~~!! " It's truly good to see everyone~!

Hi andrew, good to see you again - stick around occasionally.

Oh, I guess you do that already - "That's very different, never mind."

@danon5,
went for a short drive along lake ontario this afternoon and went for a walk in one of the many little parks along the LOYALIST PARKWAY .
not particularly warm yet - but the ice is gone - and the fresh air coming off the lake is SO good !
soon it'll all be green .
