What's the absolute best bit of advice anyone ever gave you?

My grandparents had a sampler (just the one):

"It's better to keep quiet and let people assume you're a fool than to open your mouth and prove it."

"It doesn't matter what you think."
Said to me by a old boss.

Reminds me now that sometimes no matter how many times you repeat something, or how loud you say it, or how right you might be -If someone else doesn't want to hear it, they don't want to hear it.
Saved me from wasting some time. And made me marvel at people who think that their opinions are that important.

@caribou,
Cowering from some last posts..

I don't take this one as some ultimate, but I always enjoyed the idea -
from my boss in the seventies -
"a clean desk is a sign of an empty mind".

Some great bits of advice people!!!

I like your sport take, Beth.

I am going to be away for a few days, so don't think I am being rude if I don't respond.

I MAY be, as it happens, be being rude somewhere else, but not here.

Maybe "hold your dominion" is one of those vague sayings that can mean anything to anyone.

To me it always served as a reminder that the only real influence (or dominion) I had was with myself and if I could stay true to that things would work out in a way that, while maybe not perfect, I could be live with.

I guess for me it was a reminder of the karmic nature of the world -- that if you could stay true to your own heart that the world would not knock you on your ass quite as hard as it might otherwise.

My brother keeps an old photo of Mo on his desk that I captioned with Mo's saying of "Playing in the mud is the most important meal of the day."

J says that one of the best bits of advice he's ever received.

The best advice I have gotten from someone was to simply shut up.
( you have to really know me to understand that one. haha)

I love the saying live and let live. Most of the time , I think I follow that common piece of advice.

Though the best thing I have ever heard was to simply just ignore it .
meaning.. everything is temporary and not everything is about you so dont make it that way.

I cant explain it totally because it was a long conversation and Im pulling out only a small piece.. but I think the point is made.

One of my grandmother's most common sayings was an argument stopper--"You think your way, and i'll think mine."

@George,
Hi Geroge, I see you have helped a few people out with latin translations and would much appreciate your help.

Could you translate - Dreams will set me free

I would be most grateful.

Many thanks

@billybluesox,
George might respond to your question in this thread, Billy, but you'd probably get a response more quickly by posting your question in the thread dedicated to translations into Latin. Click here to visit the "Translate English into Latin" thread

@billybluesox,
Setanta's recommendation to use a specifically Latin thread is good advice.
But here's how I would translate your request:
