@Diane,
Very scary for you, Diane! I hope Bob is doing better and that you are okay. Osso, BBB, and your neighbors are wonderful.
@Diane,
Diane, I called Beva and Michel at 7:30 am Wednesday to read your update post to them so they would know Dys was OK. They were very relieved as they've been so worried about his ability to undergo such serious surgery. They send their love to you and hope you got some sleep last night.
BBB
great to hear the surgery went as well as it did, hope the recovery is not too much of a hardship, good thoughts for the both of you
Holy crap, that old cowpoke is tough!
I'm putting healing vibes on full power.
Diane, what can I say but hang in there? You're amazing.
BBB & ossobuco, what friends!
Waiting, along with everyone else, for news. Hoping, along with eveyone else, for a good outcome.
You Albuequirkians are so fortunate to have each other for support. I hope Dys's recovery is uneventful!
@Tai Chi,
My thoughts too Tai Chi. They sure stick together.
I'm in Michigan, that leaves me with.......oh no.....
When Dys has recovered enough that he won't split his stitches laughing, I have a hospital joke for him.
A man was in the hospital and was chatting with his new room mate. He asked what he was in for. "I had a stroke and fell down and broke my hip," he replied.
"Wow!, that must be why they got you hooked up to that monitor, the one that goes beep beep beep all the time," he replied. "I have some important advise for you. Take great care that the beep beeping never stops because, if it does, they come in and beat the **** out of you!"
BBB
I'm home for a few minutes, so here's a quick update.
Dys went through the surgery very well. Today they did a Doppler on him (can they also detect the cops?) which showed some old blood clots as well as new ones. He is getting blood thinner as a safety precaution. Blood clots are one of the possible side effects that can be dangerous to the point of causing death.
His spirirts are good, even giving the nurses a hard time. A coupld of them have said they wished they had more patients like him.
The surgeon came in to say that Dys would probably be in the hospital until Friday or Saturday, then he will get therapy for a week. We are hoping that by Saturday, he will be doing well enough to go home and get home care to avoid having to spend another week away from home. That is what we are hoping to hear. Having to be confined in a hospital setting for another week would drive anyone crazy.
I have been amazed at how great all the staff have been at Presbyterian. Comapred to how he was treated in Denver, the nurses and doctors at Presbyterian are all angels. And what a difference to one's mental as well as physical well being.
The sense of relief is almost overwhelming. He ate all of his breakfast and his lunch. For a month his pain has been so bad that he hasn't been able to eat much at all. I love just sitting there watching him eating one bite after another.
The dietician figured that his lunch probably had close to 2,000 calories. That would send me into paroxcysms of guilt. For Bob, it is a beautiful thing.
I haven't felt this happy in a couple of years, especially in the last month. The worry had become chronic, something that I was so used to that it no longer registered. Now that it is gone, the relief was dizzying.
Back sometime tonight with more.
Love to you all. I haven't been able to send individual thanks for your posts, but they all have meant the world to both of us, and there were some that had me laughing out loud.
Our friends here give us a sense of family and someone to count on right away, but the a2k family is just as important in its own way. The good feelings coming from all of you have a very real effect.
A grateful thanks to our a2k family.
@Diane,
Such good news, Diane. Osso called me a few minutes ago to say she'd lost her computer internet connection and can't post until it's restored. She told me Dys called her with a list of things for her to do. Wouldn't you know the first thing he does is give orders? Beva is at their house today so I know Sally and Dante are being cared for when Diane is not home.
BBB
@Diane,
Sounds good, thanks for the update, Diane!
Ah that's good news. I am so glad that Dys is not in pain any longer and can
eat with appetite and regain his strength in the weeks to come. All my best
to the both of you!
@Diane,
That's a terrific update. Thanks so much for the news. I'm really really pleased to hear that they're being proactive with the blood thinners (there are a couple of threads here about dietary implications that you can browse when you've got browsing time).
Diane, I hope you're taking good care of yourself as well. You need to be in good condition to take advantage of a healthy cowboy
@Diane,
Brrr! I have goose bumps from your report! He's doing well, you're giddy, I love it! <phew!>
So when are you going to post the x-rays?
Baaaaak. It turned out that qwest x'd me along with others; the person I spoke to apologized and said they'd restore w/i 24 hours. Very nice, and I gave a nod for her to her supervisor.
Anyway, my internet connection went kerflooey just around the time the Dys called. I figure that's connected - my surprise at his fine voice sending little ones and zeros through my isp.
He didn't give me orders so much as to say it would be fine to tell a2kers all the details. But Diane's cookin', so nemmind.
@Diane,
Wow, very encouraging news! Thanks so much for the update.
And glad you've got your internet connection, Osso.
@Diane,
I am very happy that Dys is getting excellent medical care. I know what a comfort that is to you, Diane.
Best wishes for rapid healing sent from the east side of the river. Do try to persuade him to stay in rehab as long as they want to keep him though, Diane. The Pres care in the rehab facilities is usually pretty accommodating too. It will make going home a lot easier. My 80+ year old aunt here had a hip replacement a couple of years ago and we practically had to chain her to her bed she wanted to leave so early. But the P.T. and extra help she got there made all the difference when she came home to accomplish a quick, relatively pain free, and complete recovery.
Oh, I'm so happy to hear such good news!
(Still looking for that jumping up and down emoticon...)
